Buccaneer Days Returns to Two Harbors, Oct. 3-6

TWO HARBORS — From Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, Santa Catalina Island will be overtaken by pirates.

Catalina’s 24th annual Buccaneer Days will give boaters a chance to dress in bandanas and eye patches — or full-dress regalia, if they choose — while their boats will be flying skull-and-crossbone burgees.

A $30 cover charge will provide access to four days of swashbuckling fun. The event will feature live bands, late night DJs and a special “Pirate Pick-Pocket” performance by illusionist Seth Grabel. The Harbor Reef Restaurant, the deck and the plaza below will be transformed into a Pirate Village, with multiple satellite bars, treasure hunts and costume contests.

For those willing to shell out an extra $30, the “Bacardi Hangout” will be available Friday and Saturday, offering guests a private bartender, restrooms and lounge.

As all moorings in Two Harbors are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, it is recommended that boaters arrive as early as possible for the occasion.

Alternative transportation via helicopter from Avalon to Two Harbors will be available for $190 per person round-trip, and cross-channel transportation will be available from San Pedro and Avalon on Catalina Express. Catalina Expeditions Safari Bus transportation to Two Harbors, through the island’s wilderness interior, will be available at $32 per person ($26 for children), each way.
