Catalina Express Extends Free Birthday Rides

CATALINA ISLAND — Catalina Express is extending its “Free Ride on Your Birthday” promotion through April 30, 2013. The move comes following the company’s decision last year to celebrate its 30th anniversary by giving a free pass to anyone who wants to go to Catalina on their birthday.

The success of last year’s promotion prompted the extension for this season, and those looking to take advantage of the free ride should be aware of some requirements prior to arriving at the dock.

To qualify, patrons must pre-register online or call (800) 995-4386 for the 2012-2013 free pass. An e-mail confirmation will be required, where riders can download and print their free birthday pass.

The birthday promotion code, found on the free pass, must be entered for online reservations or mentioned at the time of booking by phone. Catalina Express riders must bring their free pass and a valid photo I.D. to the ticket window on their birthday, and can then board a Catalina Express boat to Catalina Island.

The deal is good at all Catalina Express’ mainland ports — San Pedro, downtown Long Beach and Dana Point — and the two island ports at Avalon and Two Harbors.

Riders younger than 18 who do not have a valid photo ID must bring either an original or notarized birth certificate to the ticket window to get the free pass. School IDs, children security IDs or photocopies of identifications are not acceptable.

The free ride is valid for general seating only.
