Two Harbors Hosts Annual Buffalo Chip Toss

TWO HARBORS — Mariners should start warming up their throwing arms in preparation for Two Harbors’ 27th annual Jimmy Walker Buffalo Chip Toss on Saturday, Aug. 31.

Each year, more than 200 visitors head over from the mainland for a chance to break a record and take home a trophy in this lighthearted competition.

Contestants will be separated into four groups — men, women, girls and boys — to compete for the top honors. The farthest toss out of each group wins a trophy and a $25 Two Harbors gift card.

The event was started by the late Jimmy Walker, who worked as a Two Harbors Harbor Patrol officer for several years. While Walker has passed on, the Buffalo Chip Toss continues — and it is now held in his honor.

Participants looking to break last year’s farthest toss record must throw a buffalo chip that has been hand-selected by the Two Harbors staff. Women must throw the chip farther than 92 feet; men must throw it more than 146 feet.
