Nov. 12 • 9:06 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received found property: a kayak dropped off at the office by a rowing crew.
Nov. 13 • 5:45 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 40-foot trawler with two people aboard that was in danger of running aground. Officers assisted with a tow, and Vessel Assist was contacted.
Nov. 16 • 3:33 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers removed a large log from the harbor entrance.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY
King Harbor
Oct. 30
• Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol officers responded to a Coast Guard request to assist with the apprehension of a 30-foot smuggling vessel, 2 miles south of Redondo Beach. According to officers, the vessel was beached, and three suspects were taken into custody.
Nov. 6 • 5 a.m. Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol officers responded to an incident of two fishing vessels allegedly involved in a paintball assault while fishing for mackerel offshore. Statements were taken from both boat operators for an incident report.

VENTURA COUNTY
Channel Islands Harbor

Nov. 4 • 11:45 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 20-foot vessel out of fuel and anchored by Light #4. The vessel was towed to the fuel dock.
Nov. 11 • 6:10 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled electric boat in the main basin. The boat was towed to a private marina.
Nov. 11 • 6:40 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an 18-foot boat aground in the dredge pond area of Hollywood Beach. The vessel was removed from a shoal and escorted to the harbormaster’s dock.
Nov. 11 • 6:40 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a medical emergency on a vessel at a private marina. The patient was treated by fire department personnel.

Ventura Harbor
Oct. 29 • 6:56 p.m.
Ventura Harbor Patrol officers were flagged down by operators of a disabled hoop-netting boat. Officers took the boat in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Oct. 30 • 7:07 p.m. The Coast Guard relayed a 911 call from a 20-foot vessel disabled near the rocks on the outside of the breakwater. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Oct. 31 • 8:02 p.m. Ventura Police Department personnel reported a vessel going aground at Harbor Cove Beach. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, located a disabled 16-foot vessel, took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Nov. 3 • 8:35 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel in need of assistance in the main channel. Officers located the vessel, which was out of fuel, towed it to the fuel dock and released it.
Nov. 4 • 9:35 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel with smoke coming out of it, 1 mile from the harbor entrance. Officers responded and found the vessel was disabled. Officers took the boat in tow and released it at its slip at Ventura Keys.
Nov. 6 • 6:18 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers observed a squid seiner entering the harbor at a speed in excess of 5 mph. Officers cited the operator for excessive speed.
Nov. 8 • 11:15 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a disabled vessel close to the surf, 1 mile south of the harbor, in 20 knots of wind. Officers located the vessel at the surfline, took it into tow and released it at its slip at Ventura Harbor Village.
Nov. 11 • 9 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol received a request for a tow from the captain of a commercial vessel, at the harbor entrance. Officers responded, took the vessel in tow and released it at the vessel’s slip at Ventura Harbor Village.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor

Nov. 3 • 1:50 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an abandoned kayak off Ledbetter Cove. Witnesses said they saw a man with a wetsuit nearby earlier, but had not seen him recently. Officers found a teal kayak upside down, with a red paddle tied to the top of the kayak in the kelp beds. Officers stood by for approximately 30 minutes until the diver surfaced approximately 50 yards northeast of his kayak. Officers made contact with diver and educated him on the dangers of diving without a dive flag.
Nov. 3 • 8:39 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a medical emergency at a harbor restaurant. While medics and Harbor Patrol officers tended to the unconscious patient, a bystander reportedly picked up and walked away with a 12-lead EKG heart monitor worth approximately $25,000. After the patient was transported to a nearby hospital, Harbor Patrol officers and local police searched the area. They located and arrested the subject on a charge of felony grand theft.
Nov. 6 • 1:30 p.m. During a routine patrol, Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers found a man swimming in the main channel toward Marina 1. The subject continued swimming south and pulled himself out of the water at R Dock. When Harbor Patrol officers questioned him, the subject reportedly became threatening and produced a screwdriver. Officers drew their tasers, and the subject jumped into the water and swam east to the sandspit. Harbor Patrol and local police officers pursued the subject on foot to the waterline. After a brief struggle, he was arrested.
Nov. 7 • 10 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers assisted a volunteer from the Marine Mammal Center in rescuing a 10-foot juvenile false killer whale that had beached itself. The whale was relocated 3 miles offshore and was last seen making its way toward the Channel Islands.
Nov. 14 • 8:10 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers received a report from the operator of a fishing vessel that a 40-foot panga was heading in a northwest direction from between Santa Rosa and San Miguel islands. The reporting party saw two people aboard, and the panga appeared to be heavy in the water. Information was passed on to Coast Guard personnel and the Joint Agency Taskforce. The panga, with three people aboard, was located by helicopter. A Coast Guard cutter intercepted the panga 15 miles south of Point Conception.
