ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
March 4 • 6:11 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a powerboat with a running bilge pump and water standing in the bilge. The owner was notified.

Newport Harbor
March 4 • 5:33 p.m.
Harbor Patrol officers received a report that numerous sea lions were crowding aboard a 50-foot yacht near the 1000 block of West Bay Avenue. The owner was contacted and informed of the situation.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
March 4 • 1:44 p.m.
Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel aground with passengers injured. According to reports, after the boat became beached near Pacific Coast Highway and Prospect at Shoreline, a fight ensued between the two subjects aboard the vessel and a stabbing occurred. When officers arrived, one reportedly had a leg injury and one had a head injury. The boaters were treated at a local hospital, and the boat was towed.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Long Beach Harbor
Feb. 21 • 1:09 p.m.
Long Beach Police Boat 1 responded to a vehicle in the water inside the Southeast basin at Pier G. A diver from Long Beach Fire Department Rescue Boat 2 entered the water and recovered the driver, who was found inside the vehicle in 30 feet of water. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Feb. 24 • 5:26 p.m. Long Beach Police Marine Patrol officers responded to Downtown Marina Gangway I for a report of a vessel revving its engine and emitting heavy black smoke. Officers determined that the vessel owner was breaking in a new engine, and he was advised to limit the engine noise.

Alamitos Bay
Feb. 21 • 11:48 a.m.
Long Beach Police Marine Patrol officers responded to a theft of approximately $275 worth of diesel fuel that was siphoned from the tank of the vessel at Gangway 13.

Redondo Beach/King Harbor
Feb. 6 • 7:08 p.m.
Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol received a VHF radio call from a passing vessel, reporting a capsized boat -- a 12-foot aluminum skiff -- and two people on the breakwall near the entrance to the harbor. A 49-year-old and a 12-year-old were helped off the breakwall and brought to the Harbor Patrol office for medical evaluation, and their vessel was recovered and returned to them the next day.

VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor
Feb. 21 • 7:30 a.m.
Ventura Harbor Patrol officers observed a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt climb over the fence at Ventura Isle Marina. The man was found to be a local boat owner who had lost his gate key.

Channel Islands Harbor
Feb. 12 • 3:40 p.m.
Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers and Oxnard Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a vessel fire at a local marina. The fire on the 18-foot powerboat was extinguished, and the cause was reported to be a malfunctioning heater. There was no damage to the vessel, and there were no injuries reported.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor
Feb. 23 • 7 a.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of someone sleeping on the roof of the Marina 3 restroom. The campers were four German carpenters wearing traditional clothing -- including stovepipe hats, black leather bellbottoms and waistcoats. They told officers they were on a “wanderschaft,” a three-year travel experience after completing craftsman apprenticeships.

Feb. 26 • 9:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 43-foot sailboat aground on East Beach. The boat owner told officers he had just arrived in Santa Barbara, tied off to a float and went to sleep. He woke up to the sound of his wooden boat hitting the beach. After discovering the hull was compromised, the owner hired a local company to dispose of the boat.

March 1 • Harbor Patrol officers contacted a boat owner who was burning books in a barbecue on the bow of his boat at a local marina. The fire was extinguished, and the owner was warned about creating a fire hazard.
