Learn What to Do in a Tsunami, at California YC

MARINA DEL REY — Tsunamis can come with little warning and can bring devastation to coastal communities — including pleasurecraft harbors. Coast Guard officers will offer advice especially designed for recreational boaters at a special presentation at California Yacht Club, titled “U.S. Coast Guard: What to Do if Anticipating a Tsunami — and Other Useful Information for Boaters,” Feb. 28.
The lecture — presented by Lt. Steward Sibert, commanding officer for the Coast Guard vessel Halibut; and Lt. Sean Arumoe, command duty officer for sector Los Angeles-Long Beach — will offer advice on how to survive (and avoid) disasters, whether your boat is dockside or at sea.
Boaters will also learn how they can play a part in improving the marine environment and what they can do to better enjoy the upcoming yachting season. Lt. Arumoe and Lt. Sibert will share firsthand stories of their daily interactions with boaters and present information on their day-to-day operations.
The public is invited to attend. Happy hour begins at 11:30 a.m. with a buffet lunch at 12:20 p.m. The presentation starts at 12:40 p.m. The cost is $16.25, which includes a buffet lunch and parking.
