Old Fashioned Day in the Park features classic yachts

MARINA DEL REY — Continue Marina del Rey’s 50th birthday celebration with the 39th annual Old Fashioned Day in the Park, July 26 at Burton Chace Park. Classic yachts and vintage automobiles will take center stage at the event sponsored by the Classic Yacht Association (CYA) and the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors, and admission is free.

The public will get a glimpse of the past as they board the vintage yachts dating back to the 1920s as well as view a wide array of restored vintage automobiles – woodies, Model A’s, T-Birds and more. There will also be vintage steam-powered farm equipment, a steam launch offering rides, models, Historical Society display and harbor tours.

Restored yachts built by Stephens Bros., Ed Monk, Sr., Fellows and Stewart, Chris Craft, Dawn, Elco and more will be open for boarding.

“We love to share our passion for these American treasures,” said Christine Rohde, former commodore of the International Association, and coordinator of the event

The perfectly restored 1929 47-foot yacht Athena built by Stephens Bros., will be on display, as will Rohde’s 1950 Chris Craft Catalina, Sparkle, which calls Marina del Rey home.

Old Fashioned Day in the Park will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way.
