Dana Point’s Mariners 936 Sea Scout ship scores high at Southwestern Rendezvous!

DANA POINT — Sea Scouts from near and far gathered together for three days of fun, friendship and fierce completion hosted by Camp Pendleton in early December, in an event that has been held since 1935.
Two full days of events tested the Sea Scouts maritime skills and leadership abilities. Activities challenged participants both mentally and physically in events that included knot tying, uniform inspection, sailing, swimming, marlinspike skills, drill, mariners quiz and scuttlebutt. In all, there were more than 18 different events, all of which saw Mariners 936 in the top 3.
Boatswain’s team, this year led by Kyle Baldovin, scored highly on many events and was awarded the prestigious Windjammer trophy, the highest award of the weekend. Mariner team R, led by Rachel Hunter, completed scuttlebutt with the fastest time and was awarded the Scuttle-off trophy.
Mariners 936 is based out of Dana Point Harbor and offers opportunities to sail, cruise, compete and learn maritime skills in a fun and friendly co-ed group for youth ages 14 to 18 years of age.
