Large turnout for Dana West YC Charity Regatta

DANA POINT – Fair winds and warm temperatures made for an ideal sailing day during Dana West Yacht Club’s Charity event, June 6 to 8.

More than 30 boats participated in the three-day regatta, which included an awards ceremony.

The regatta was held off the coast of Dana Point Harbor, and was open to PHRF and Cruiser classes. Friday June 6, consisted of Newport to Dana Point, PHRF and Cruising class. On Saturday June 7, two buoy races for the PHRF class entries were held along with one Random Leg Race (RLC) for cruisers, and a juniors in harbor Sabot Regatta. Sunday concluded with all boats racing a RLC. A live and silent auction was held Saturday evening.

An annual tradition for 17 years, all proceeds from the regatta will be donated to the nonprofit organizations, Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group  and Art & Creativity for Healing .

Cruising Class B: 1st Autumn Moon, 2nd Cecilia, 3rd Anthem
Cruising Class C: 1st Elizabeth, 2nd Mer Sea, 3rd Island Breeze

Bill Davidson Memorial- Cruising Class, Best score, one throw out, awarded to a monohull  from Dana Point Harbor, class breaks will not be removed to calculate final results. (Tie Autumn Moon, Rich Bennett & Elizabeth, Carl Paez)
Wayne Leshyk Memorial – PHRF, Best score, one throw out, class breaks will not be removed   to calculate final results and the trophy will be awarded to a boat entered by a current member of the Dana West Yacht Club. (Aimant De Fille, Steve Ernest)
Jim Ferguson Trophy– Cruising Class, Non-spinnaker, Best score, No throw outs, class breaks will not be removed to calculate final results. (Autumn Moon, Rich Bennett)
