ON THE RADAR: SoCal skippers prepare for Two Gates Race

LONG BEACH — The traditional Two Gates Pursuit Race will once again jumpstart Long Beach Yacht Club’s racing season on Jan. 10. The first race of the year weaves in and out of both Long Beach and Los Angeles harbors on a 13.2-nautical-mile course via each harbor’s entrances, Angels Gate for Los Angeles and Queens Gate for Long Beach.

New for 2016, Long Beach YC will break up entries into three classes, giving everyone a chance to not only get a trophy for their overall finish, but also a shot at a trophy for their finish in their respective class.

A shorter second alternate course has also been added this year just in case the weather decides to not cooperate with the race committee’s plans.

A valid 2016 PHRF certificate is required to complete a boat’s entry. PHRF certificate applications or renewals are made online at phrfsocal.org.

Entries for the 2016 Two Gates Pursuit Race can be made online at regattanetwork.com or at the yacht club located at 6201 Appian Way in Long Beach.
