Oceanside YC hosts annual Elizabeth Hospice Charity Regatta

OCEANSIDE — The Elizabeth Hospice Charity Regatta celebrates its 13-year run Aug. 8, complete with two days of sailboat races and post-race parties at the host club, Oceanside Yacht Club, all for a good cause.

The two-day event will kick off with sailboat races on Aug. 8 and runs through Aug. 9. Fun on and off the water will be had by all as the regatta includes live music provided by local bands from 6-10 p.m. on Aug. 8 and from 3-7 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the club. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase beginning at 4 p.m. both days.

A total of 14 boats ranging from 27 to 42 feet participated in last year’s race. Regatta organizers anticipate this number and more for this year’s event along with at least eight Lidos racing in the new Lido Category on a course inside the harbor.

A silent auction will also be held during the event with a chance to win a seven-day Holland America Cruise for two to the Caribbean, Mexico or Canada/New England or Alaska. The cruise drawing is $20 per ticket. The public can join the fun on the water and board a luxury powerboat for a $100 per person donation to The Elizabeth Hospice.

“The Elizabeth Hospice is honored to be selected by Oceanside Yacht Club as their regatta beneficiary of choice for the past 13 years,” said Jan Jones, president and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice. “Their generous contributions directly impacts The Elizabeth Hospice’s profound mission in providing comprehensive services for adults and children impacted by illness and grief in our community.”

The Elizabeth Hospice is the oldest and largest nonprofit hospice provider of medical, emotional and spiritual support to the seriously ill and their families in San Diego County. Since 1978, the organization has helped more than 90,000 patients and families in the community regardless of their ability to pay.

“Oceanside YC is proud to host this event to benefit The Elizabeth Hospice,” said Terri Manok, Charity Regatta race chair. “We invite the racing community of all areas to enter the regatta and if not racing, join us for a weekend of live bands, entertainment and auction in support of the hospice.”

The regatta has raised $216,533 since 2003.

Entry fee to race in the regatta is $50 daily. Post-race parties are open to the public and free of charge beginning at 3 p.m., Aug. 8 and 2 p.m., Aug. 9. Oceanside Yacht Club is located at 1950 Harbor Drive North. To register for the race or learn more about the weekend activities visit oceansideyc.net or call 760-722-5751.
