Mercury Advisory Issued for Striped Bass in Southern Lake Powell
posted: 11/5/2012Regulators said striped bass consumption in the lake’s southern portion should be limited by pregnant women and children. They said it is still safe to consume other fish species in the lake and to eat striped bass in Lake Powell at or below the recommended consumption rates.
Authorities recommended, for instance, that pregnant women and children younger than age 6 limit their consumption of striped bass to one 4-ounce serving per month.
Regulators said mercury is a naturally occurring element that can be transformed into a toxic form.
