PAGE, Ariz. (AP) -- Environmental regulators have issued a fish consumption advisory for the southern portion of Lake Powell, recommending that people limit consumption of striped bass with potentially high levels of mercury -- caught from Dangling Rope Marina in Utah to Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona.            

Regulators said striped bass consumption in the lake’s southern portion should be limited by pregnant women and children. They said it is still safe to consume other fish species in the lake and to eat striped bass in Lake Powell at or below the recommended consumption rates.            

Authorities recommended, for instance, that pregnant women and children younger than age 6 limit their consumption of striped bass to one 4-ounce serving per month.            

Regulators said mercury is a naturally occurring element that can be transformed into a toxic form.
