Catalina Marineros to hike island’s interior during annual trek

TWO HARBORS — The Catalina Island Conservancy is inviting the public to cruise over to the island to enjoy some fresh air and beautiful views of the island during the Catalina Marineros hike on July 23.

The rigorous hike takes guests from Two Harbors to Little Harbor during the more than 5-mile course that climbs the hillside from the isthmus and drops down into the campgrounds of Little Harbor.

Spectacular views of the island will surround hikers as they make their way along the course. Hikers will enjoy lunch and games. A Catalina Island Conservancy staff member will provide guests with a presentation about the island.

Lunch, t-shirt and transportation back to Two Harbors are all included with registration.

Participants will meet at Two Harbors at 9:30 a.m. on July 23. The shuttle will leave Little Harbor at 3 p.m. to allow hikers the option of taking the morning Catalina Express from San Pedro and return on the same day if desired.

The Catalina Marineros are members that support the Catalina Island Conservancy’s mission to be responsible steward of Catalina Island through a balance of conservation, education and recreation, according to the group’s website.

Cost is $49 for Catalina Island Conservancy members and $59 for non-members. Please call 562-437-8555 ext 239 for details or questions about the hike. To register visit: catalinaconservancy.org or tinyurl.com/zoqoqol.
