SAN DIEGO COUNTY

San Diego Bay

Aug. 27 • 11:30 a.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers assisted a mariner in distress off the Sweetwater Channel. Officers provided a courtesy tow to safety. No injuries were reported.

Aug. 27 • 6:15 p.m. Harbor Police officers assisted a mariner in distress near the Navy piers. Officers provided a courtesy tow to a safe location until a commercial assistance firm arrived. No injuries were reported.

Aug. 29 • 5:15 p.m. Harbor Police officers assisted a mariner in distress off Ballast Point.  Officers provided a courtesy tow to safety. No injuries were reported.

Sept. 1 • 2 p.m. Harbor Police officers assisted boaters in the Glorietta Bay anchorage with a vessel that was dragging anchor. The owner of the vessel arrived to secure his boat and no injury or property damage was reported.

Sept. 2 • 1:55 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a speeding vessel in the Shelter Island basin. The vessel operator was cited for unsafe speed.

Sept. 4 • 2:35 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a mayday call reporting a vessel on fire near the 9-mile Bank, about 11 miles from the bay entrance. The two boaters in the burning vessel boarded their own dinghy and were assisted by a fishing vessel in the area, according to police reports. Officers provided the boaters with transportation to Shelter Island while a commercial assistance firm responded to the burning vessel. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was unknown at press time.

Sept. 5 • 1:35 p.m. Harbor Police officers arrested a boater on a charge of possession of a controlled substance for sale, near Dana Landing in Mission Bay.

 

Mission Bay

Aug. 23 • 7:53 p.m. San Diego Lifeguard Service Harbor Patrol personnel responded to a report of a surfer in distress at Bird Rock. A concerned citizen lost sight of the male surfer, who was wearing no wetsuit and was possibly a beginner, according to reports.

Aug. 24 • 3:21 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a concerned citizen’s report of a sailboat with children on board with no personal floatation devices, in San Juan Cove. Lifeguards attempted to make contact and talk to the individuals.

Aug. 25 • 5:08 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel near the surfline.

Aug. 25 • 10:57 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of an illegally beached vessel. The owner of the 16-foot Hobie Cat was contacted.

Aug. 25 • 12:28 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of an overturned kayak at the turning basin. One person was rescued.

Aug. 25 • 12:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a confirmed shark sighting. Water was closed from T19 to the south Mission Bay jetty.

Aug. 25 • 2:16 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel stuck in the mud at the information center. The sloop was freed and cleared.

Aug. 26 • 8:35 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a citizen’s report of a 14-inch fin outside the surfline. The report was deemed a valid shark sighting, and the water was cleared from T19 to the south Mission Bay jetty.

Aug. 26 • 9:48 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel adrift in Santa Barbara Cove. The vessel was reattached to its mooring.

Aug. 26 • 11:28 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at La Jolla Shores. The 27-year-old man reportedly suffered hypothermia and nausea aboard his kayak, 100 yards south of Scripps Pier.

Aug. 27 • 8:59 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a 50-year-old male kayaker refusing to leave the SeaWorld Park enclosed ski area/Perez Cove.

Aug. 27 • 2:13 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel in Mission Bay Channel. Lifeguards assisted the person aboard the personal watercraft, clearing a fouled impeller.

Aug. 27 • 4:22 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of vessel aground at South Ingraham Bridge. The fishing rental boat with five people on board was on the rocks, and was cleared.

Aug. 28 • 12:39 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a kayak in distress off Devil’s Slides. Two people on board were reportedly knocked off the kayak and onto the rocks. The passengers were transported to the boat launch, with no injuries reported.

Aug. 28 • 1:02 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of 19-foot powerboat adrift off Mission Bay Channel. Vessel Assist took over the call.

Aug. 28 • 1:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a compliant about the proximity of a sailboat regatta at Sail Bay. Both parties were contacted, and the dispute was resolved.

Aug. 29 • 4:02 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a person throwing rocks at personal watercraft in the South Pacific PWC Area.

Aug. 29 • 5:32 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel adrift in the Crown Point area.

Aug. 29 • 4:02 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to another report of a man throwing rocks at personal watercraft on Fiesta Island. San Diego Police Department officers took over the call.

Aug. 29 • 4:06 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a personal watercraft spraying an individual on a paddleboard and engaging in allegedly reckless behavior. A warning was issued.

Aug. 29 • 5:32 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a single personal watercraft adrift off South Crown Point. The PWC was located and secured on the beach.

Aug. 31 • 1:28 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a possible decomposed body near South Ingraham Bridge. The body was recovered, brought back to the docks and turned over to the San Diego Police Department.

Aug. 31 • 1:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a shark sighting off Casa Reef. Water was closed from Hospital Point to No Man’s, at La Jolla Cove.

 

ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor

Aug. 13 • 10:48 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible fuel spill at K Dock at East Basin Island.

Aug. 17 • 2:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person overboard from a 17-foot vessel near Dana Point Yacht Club.

Aug. 18 • 2:56 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a stolen boat at D Dock West Basin.

Aug. 19 • 12:51 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow off Aliso Beach in South Laguna. The vessel, with two adults and one child on board, was towed to the Dana Point launch ramp.

Aug. 20 • 5:29 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a sailboat rescue off Capistrano Beach, at the surfline.

Aug. 22 • 1:36 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow outside the west jetty. A sailboat was towed back inside the harbor.

Aug. 23 • 3:48 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 41-foot sailboat that was reported to be in danger of hitting rocks at the harbor entrance. Officers located and towed the vessel.

Aug. 26 • 5:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident and fire, 1 mile down the coast from the harbor entrance.

Aug. 27 • 11:04 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding boat near Beach Road.

Aug. 30 • 5:41 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing a boat from the east jetty to a dock.

Sept. 3 • 6:07 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 54-foot sailboat in getting into its slip.

Sept. 7 • 12:12 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an inflatable boat that was unattended and on the rocks at the east jetty. Officers were able to find out that the dinghy belonged to a transient boater off Doheny State Beach.

Sept. 8 • 9:33 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident fire at B Dock, West Basin.

Newport Harbor

Aug. 12 • 8:11 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing a 21-foot electric boat near Bay Island.

Aug. 13 • 4:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a disabled 35-foot trawler that was reportedly heading toward the rocks at the harbor entrance.

Aug. 14 • 9 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted an 18-foot boat taking on water, with four people on board. Officers escorted it back to Newport Dunes.

Aug. 18 • 6:42 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted an electric boat with a family and dog on board, aground at Bayside Village.

Aug. 19 • 5:43 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized boat with eight people in the water at the anchorage.

Aug. 20 • 2:38 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing an electric boat with three people on board from Lido Club House to Lido Soud.

Aug. 24 • 3:54 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a two speeding PWCs at Lido Channel.

Aug. 28 • 12:17 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an electric boat adrift in the anchorage. The vessel was towed back to its boat rental company.

Aug. 28 • 1:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a male subject who allegedly threw a small child from a harbor tour boat near the Fun Zone.

Sept. 1 • 3:36 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 58-foot powerboat that lost power at Harbor Island. The vessel was anchored in the main channel and waited for Vessel Assist.

Sept. 2 • 4:59 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operator of a disabled skiff allegedly rowing too close to the rocks on the inside of the east jetty. The vessel was towed to the bait barge.

Sept. 3 • 2:37 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a towing a 30-foot sailboat that reportedly ran out of fuel near Balboa Pier.

Sept. 4 • 3:32 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident and fire at DeAnza Marina. The 34-foot powerboat with five people on board had smoke coming from the engine room. Officers found a small electrical fire. No damages were reported.

 

Sunset/Huntington Harbour

Aug. 12 • 11:29 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding 36-foot powerboat at the main channel at Trinidad Island.

Aug. 15 • 4:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill near the 16000 block of Bonair.

Sept. 2 • 2:49 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 22-foot powerboat with fuel leaking into its bilge, near the Seagate Condos. The vessel was towed to a local boatyard.

Sept. 3 • 7:35 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision involving an electric boat near the 16600 block of Ensign Circle.

Sept. 5 • 6:18.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel under the Pacific Coast Highway Bridge with white smoke coming out of the engine compartment.

VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor

Aug. 21 • 2:35 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 28-foot vessel by the West Bank public docks. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Aug. 21 • 4:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled personal watercraft taking on water off Silverstrand Beach. The two people on board were taken aboard the patrol boat and the PWC was towed to the launch ramp, where it was dewatered and placed on a trailer.

Aug. 21 • 5:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized kayak near Bahia Marina. The people and the kayak towed were taken by patrol boat to the harbormaster dock, where the kayak was dewatered and released.

Aug. 23 • 7:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 25-foot vessel near Kiddie Beach. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Aug. 23 • 8:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers relieved a Good Samaritan vessel of a tow near Light No. 1. The vessel was towed to a local boatyard.

Aug. 30 • 4:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 18-foot vessel near the south jetty. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Sept. 3 • 10:55 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible boat fire, 500 yards south of Light No. 1. After arriving on the scene it was determined that the white plume coming from the vessel was steam from the exhaust.

Sept. 3 • 12:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 25-foot vessel near Light No. 2. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Sept. 3 • 12:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 18-foot vessel in the main basin. The vessel was towed to its slip.

Sept. 4 • 12:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 18-foot boat near Kiddie Beach. The vessel was towed to a marina and released.

Ventura Harbor

Aug. 27 • 12:54 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of one stand-up personal watercraft attempting to tow two disabled stand-up PWCs at McGrath Beach. Officers attempted to assist them off the beach, but because of surf conditions, were unable to assist them. The owners attempted to remove the PWCs by land.

Aug. 29 • 7:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of fisherman who allegedly slipped and fell on the Fish Offloading Dock. Officers reported the only visible injury was a lacerated tongue. The subject had his son pick him up and transport him to a local hospital for examination.

Aug. 29 • 10:25 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a dock float in the Keys. Officers recovered the float, located its owner and returned it to him.

Sept. 5 • 12:13 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a disabled vessel at the harbor entrance. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at its slips in the Keys.

Sept. 5 • 1:55 p.m. Harbor Cove Lifeguards responded to a report of a windsurfer in distress in the channel. Patrol picked up the reportedly neophyte windsurfer and transported him to Harbor Cove Beach.

Sept. 5 • 3:25 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a disabled sailboat off Ventura Yacht Club. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at its slip.

Sept. 5 • 5:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a disabled vessel in Main Channel. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at its slip in the Keys.
