SAN DIEGO COUNTY

San Diego Bay

Sept. 7 • 10 a.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers assisted a stranded personal watercraft near Buoy 5. The vessel was towed to safety.

Sept. 11 • 4:25 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a man jumping into San Diego Bay from “G” Street Pier. Officers contacted the subject and detained him for psychiatric evaluation.

Sept. 12 • 7 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of stolen fishing rods and reels from a vessel in a Harbor Island marina.

Sept. 15 • 7:30 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a possible fuel spill at a Harbor Island marina. About 50 gallons were reportedly spilled. The case was turned over to the Coast Guard and the district attorney for review.

Sept. 15 • 11 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a vessel fire at a Shelter Island marina. A fire reportedly started in the cabin of a 60-foot vessel. According to police, a Good Samaritan put out the fire with an extinguisher as units arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported.

Sept. 18 • 6 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report a fuel spill near the Coronado Cays, where about five gallons was reportedly spilled from a recreational vessel. The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.

 

Mission Bay

Sept. 5 • 1:01 p.m. San Diego Lifeguard Service Harbor Patrol personnel responded to a report of a collision of two personal watercraft at Sail Bay. No injuries were reported.

Sept. 5 • 3:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel aground, on the rocks. The ski boat, with a person on board, was towed to the reception dock.

Sept. 5 • 4:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel at Fiesta Bay. Lifeguards provided a courtesy tow.

Sept. 5 • 4:41 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel capsized at Mission Point. The catamaran was able to right itself, and no assistance was needed.

Sept. 5 • 5 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a personal watercraft sinking with four people aboard at Fiesta Bay. The PWC was towed to Ski Beach.

Sept. 5 • 6:16 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel off Mission Bay Channel. The vessel had lost power and was escorted to Dana Landing.

Sept. 6 • 2:17 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a kayaker in distress off Sunset Cliffs. The kayaker was able get to safety on his own.

Sept. 8 • 4:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel adrift at Fiesta Bay. The unmanned personal watercraft was towed to its owner at the north end of Ski Beach.

Sept. 9 • 12:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a 22-foot sailboat aground. The vessel was cleared and no damage was reported.

Sept. 9 • 5:07 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a 25-foot Catalina aground. The vessel operator was reportedly able to self-rescue.

Sept. 10 • 4:23 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel at Mission Bay Channel. The rental boat was taken in tow.

Sept. 11 • 1:01 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled 27-foot powerboat at Mission Bay Channel. The vessel was towed away from hazards to await assistance from Sea Tow.

Sept. 11 • 1:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled 12-foot runabout with two people aboard. The vessel was towed away from hazards, the vessel’s operator was able to correct its problem and the boat headed south.

Sept. 11 • 4:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a missing vessel. A man was reported overdue on his personal watercraft. However, the subject was later located at his home.

Sept. 11 • 9:27 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a flare sighting at Scripps Beach. Two flares were spotted, but upon investigation, nothing was found.

Sept. 12 • 5:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel on El Capitan Reservoir. Lake rangers were paged and a message with an update and vessel assistance phone numbers was left. Rangers called back and advised all vessels were checked in and out each day, and no vessel was unaccounted for. Lifeguards were confident the disabled vessel received a tow.

Sept. 12 • 7:07 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of an unknown object at Sail Bay. Upon investigation, it was confirmed to be a dock float. The Parks and Recreation Department was contacted.

Sept. 13 • 3:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of kayakers in distress near the 1300 block of Coast Boulevard. The two kayaks, with one person aboard each vessel, needed assistance in Emerald Cave, on the rocks. The kayakers were rescued and minor injuries were reported.

Sept. 14 • 5:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of unknown objects on the beach at Mariner’s Cove. Two large gray cylinders marked “U.S. Govt. Flammable Liquid/Toxic Gases” were found at the water’s edge.

 

ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor

Sept. 10 • 6:54 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow at the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Sept. 10 • 7:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident in the Baby Beach area, involving a Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel. No injuries were reported.

Sept. 12 • 5:17 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat adrift at the outer anchorage.

Sept. 16 • 8:36 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow from the harbor entrance to the fuel dock.

Sept. 19 • 5:27 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat collision near the island.

Newport Harbor

Sept. 10 • 10:35 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an overturned kayak near the headlands. The kayaker was rescued and taken to the launch ramp.

Sept. 10 • 7:13 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an electric runabout boat that was adrift and in need of a tow near Lido Soud. The vessel was dropped off at Newport Harbor Shipyard.

Sept. 12 • 9:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat sinking near Newport Dunes.

Sept. 12 • 1:49 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident and fire near the 200 block of Evening Star.

Sept. 13 • 1:46 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted in a boat rescue off Huntington Beach.

Sept. 13 • 10:54 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a missing boat at the 15th Street public dock.

Sept. 14 • 10:39 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an oil sheen on the water.

Sept. 14 • 10:46 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding powerboat in the Harbor Tower and Marina area.

Sept. 14 • 4:59 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 24-foot sailboat aground at the west jetty. The vessel returned under its own power, and officers followed the vessel to the anchorage. No damage was reported.

Sept. 15 • 2:21 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of three people in the water at the harbor entrance after their personal watercraft reportedly broke down. The people were rescued by a passing Good Samaritan boater and the sinking PWC was towed back to Newport Dunes.

Sept. 17 • 3:49 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of two speeding personal watercraft at the Back Bay.

Sept. 17 • 8:33 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operator of a 21-foot electric boat that was stuck on a mooring line.

Sept. 18 • 11:44 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers aided in pumping a 12-foot inflatable boat that was half-submerged at a mooring.

Sept. 19 • 7:46 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible fuel spill at Newport Dunes.

 

Sunset/Huntington Harbour

Sept. 10 • 2:03 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an overturned kayak with two people in the water, near Peter’s Landing.

Sept. 11 • 4:18 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding boat at Christina Bay.

Sept. 14 • 9:09 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat found near the 3400 block of Windspun Drive. The boat was towed to the office.

Sept. 15 • 3:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a body floating in the water near the west jetty. Officers found the body wedged between two rocks. Seal Beach lifeguards, a dive team and homicide detectives also responded.

Sept. 20 • 7:13 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a vessel at Seal Beach Pier and escorted it to the launch ramp.

VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor

Sept. 5 • 3:30 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 29-foot vessel disabled in the main basin. The vessel was towed to its slip in Mandalay Bay.

Sept. 8 • 10:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 20-foot sailboat disabled in the west channel. The vessel was towed to a private marina and released.

Sept. 8 • 11 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers, along with a sheriff’s deputy, responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute aboard a vessel. One person was escorted from the dock by the deputy and released.

Sept. 9 • 4:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person jumping from the Channel Islands Boulevard Bridge. The individual was issued a citation by patrol officers and taken into custody by Oxnard Police.

Sept. 9 • 2:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 32-foot vessel disabled in the main basin. The vessel was towed to the Peninsula Park dock.

Sept. 10 • 10:05 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 26-foot vessel disabled and in danger of going on the rocks by the north jetty. The vessel was towed to a private marina.

Sept. 10 • 1:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a kayaker off Hollywood Beach having difficulty making it back to the harbor. The kayaker was brought back to Hobie Beach and released.

Sept. 11 • 7:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 36-foot vessel disabled in the west channel. The vessel was towed to Vintage Marina.

Sept. 14 • 8:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person falling from the docks into the water at the Ventura County Small Boat Marina. The person in the water was rescued by Good Samaritans and no injuries were reported.

Sept. 16 • 11:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the water at the old launch ramp. A 2009 Dodge Challenger had reportedly rolled into the water and was completely submerged. No one was in the vehicle when it entered the water, according to police. The vehicle was removed from the water by a tow service.

Ventura Harbor

Sept. 7 • 12:25 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel leaving its slip and colliding with a moored vessel. Officers stopped the vessel. Damage was found to be minor, and the owner left a note on the moored vessel with his name and phone number, according to police reports.

 

 

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Sept. 2 • 6:15 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a sailboat almost hitting a kayaker and then running aground. Officers contacted the operator as he was docking the boat at Marina 1. He was later arrested on charges of operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol.

Sept. 4 • 11:29 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an attempted suicide on a boat in Marina 4. The reporting party said he had found a woman hanging by the neck in the main salon. Officers inserted an oral pharyngeal airway, administered oxygen and applied spinal precautions. Paramedics transported the subject to a local hospital.

Sept. 8 • 5:39 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person having difficulty near the breakwater. The subject was being pounded in heavy surf, on and near the rocks. One officer swam the person away from the breakwater to a waiting patrol boat, pulling the subject aboard. He was evaluated by paramedics and later released to his guardian.

Sept. 9 • 5:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a group of eight juveniles following a key card holder through a marina gate after it was opened. Officers contacted the subjects, and one said she was going to her father’s boat, according to reports. The youths were asked to leave the marina when the young woman’s father could not be contacted. The father later called and said his daughter did not have permission to be on the boat.

Sept. 15 • 6:35 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel going aground east of Stearns Wharf. Upon arrival, the vessel was hard aground, according to officers. The boat continued to be pounded in the surf and broke apart within a short time. A salvage company removed the remains before sunset.
