ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Nov. 23 • 10:58 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 55-gallon drum floating in the harbor near the West Jetty sandbar, creating a navigation hazard. The drum was removed.
Nov. 25 • 4:02 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted a boater who was having engine trouble near the harbor entrance.
Nov. 26 • 12:50 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers located a subject annoying the birds between D and E Dock, and advised him not to.
Nov. 30 • 5:51 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers located a sailboat dragging anchor near the wharf. They secured the vessel and impounded it for being left unattended.

Newport Harbor
Nov. 23 • 4:32 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a complaint from a harbor charter boat operator that four people aboard a small powerboat near the #8 marker were exposing themselves to patrons. The complaining party requested that they be stopped but not prosecuted.
Nov. 23 • 5:40 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a sailboat was lost in the fog, needing assistance. Officers escorted the vessel into the harbor.
Nov. 28 • 9:54 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a vessel operator tied up his boat at a private dock and walked away when confronted by the dock owner. The suspect was contacted, and was arrested on a warrant for parole violation. His boat was impounded.
Nov. 28 • 4:18 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that an inflatable dinghy had been tied up for several weeks at the three-hour dinghy dock and was possibly an unreported stolen vessel. Officers impounded the dinghy.
Nov. 29 • 10:09 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a large party boat decorated with Christmas lights playing very loud music, on the way to a waterfront restaurant.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Nov. 26 • 9:06 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a citizen complaint that a boat near the 3300 block of Admiralty was sticking too far out from the dock into the waterway, and that its owner was playing loud music. Officers responded, the music was turned down, and the boat was not found to be blocking the channel.

VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor

Nov. 14 • 1:16 p.m. The skipper of a vessel reported to Ventura Harbor Patrol officers that he lost one engine in the Turning Basin. He was able to fuel his boat, but the engine still stalled. Officers towed the vessel to its dock at Ventura Isle Marina and released it.
Nov. 16 • 4:35 p.m. State lifeguards relayed a report that someone jumped off the pier and was not in the area. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded. Neither police officers on the pier nor Harbor Patrol officers could locate anyone in the incident.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Nov. 24 • 4:10 p.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 6 year-old having an allergic reaction to shellfish. The young boy was ashen with swollen lips. His mother administered an EpiPen, with immediate results. The boy and his mother were transported to a local hospital.
Nov. 25 • 10 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel sinking at Marina 4. There, they found a 38-foot powerboat with a heavy starboard list. Harbor Patrol officers pumped approximately 3,000 gallons of water out of the boat. The boat’s owner was notified and stated that the vessel was scheduled to be hauled out of the water the next morning and destroyed.
Nov. 25 • 5:35 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a dock fire at Marina 1. The fire was contained to a dock box and was reportedly coming from the electrical outlet. The Harbor Facilities Department said the boat’s owner was running two space heaters, and the electrical cord caught on fire before the electrical breaker tripped.
Nov. 27 • Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel on fire at Marina 1. The reporting party said there was heavy black smoke and someone on board was screaming. Harbor Patrol officers located the lone occupant of the vessel standing on the dock. He declined medical assistance and stated that his diesel engine “took off, and then it blew.” Officers entered the vessel and found fuel oil smoking on top of the engine, but no fire. Santa Barbara Fire Department Engine #6 also responded, and its personnel confirmed there were no additional hot spots on the hull or inside the vessel.
