Jan. 16 • 5:35 p.m. A disabled sailboat was towed to an end-tie at the East Dock.
Jan. 17 • 5:39 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to reports of a 55-gallon drum floating in the outer channel, against the rocks. The drum was taken back to the Ocean Institute, where construction is taking place.
Jan. 20 • 2:41 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a call from an informant on shore who reported a 24-foot day cruiser approximately 300 yards out at Salt Creek with what appeared to be smoke coming from the engine. The vessel was last seen under way down coast and had stopped smoking.
Jan. 21 • 1:51 p.m. Dana Point Harbor Patrol assisted a 25-foot sailboat with a fouled prop at the harbor entrance.
Jan. 21 • 9:49 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers recovered a lounge chair from the harbor, between China Cove and the West Jetty.
Jan. 22 • 1:36 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a whale possibly being tangled in a net at Arch Rock.
Jan 23 • 8:03 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a call of a boat adrift in Pirates Cove.
Jan. 20 • 3:40 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 24-foot powerboat at the entrance channel.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Jan. 20 • 1 p.m. A glass-bottom boat operator reported that a baby dolphin was stuck in Lover’s Cove, unable to swim due to being wrapped up in a fishing line. An Avalon Harbor Patrol officer was able to catch the dolphin and cut the line, freeing it up to swim away.
Channel Islands Harbor
Jan. 15 • 5:30 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor’s Harbor Patrol received a call regarding a person trespassing at a private marina. The suspect was located and taken into custody by the Oxnard Police Department.
Jan. 19 • 12:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call regarding a person in the water south of Navigation Light #2. An overturned Sabot with one person in the water was located. The victim was transported to the fuel dock, where he was given warm blankets and examined by paramedics.
Jan. 19 • 5 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call regarding an overturned skiff off Silverstrand Beach. The skiff and all three people aboard were washed up onto the beach, but no injuries were reported. The boat’s owner removed the skiff from the beach the following day.
Jan. 21 • 5:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a large fire on Silverstrand Beach. Oxnard Fire Department personnel responded and extinguished the fire.
Jan. 21 • 7 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call from a person who reportedly had capsized a dinghy on the shoal north of the harbor entrance and was requesting assistance in removing it from the shoal. The vessel was removed by a commercial tow company.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Jan. 11 • 6:20 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a man sleeping in one of the shower stalls at the Marina 1 West men’s restroom. Officers reportedly observed the man in a sleeping bag. When he was unable to produce a keycard, he was issued a citation for illegal entry of a marina/restroom.
Jan. 14 • 4:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded by vehicle to a report of a suicidal person at Hendry’s Beach, on the cliffs of the Douglas Family Preserve. The subject was pulled to safety by personnel from the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Jan. 15 • 3:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call from a subject stating he was in the water and needed assistance. According to officers, they later discovered that the subject was making false reports from a couple of blocks away, in his RV.
Jan. 22 • 12:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that someone smashed in the front windshield of a vehicle in the main harbor parking lot. The reporting party said he believes this took place because of an ongoing dispute over money. A suspect identified by the reporting party denied vandalizing the vehicle.
