SAN DIEGO COUNTY
Sept. 2 • 3:38 p.m. Oceanside Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel sinking off the Oceanside Pier. The skipper stated he was taking on water and his bilge pumps were unable to keep up. Patrol boats R-1 and R-2 responded. R-1 attempted to get a line on the bow of the sinking vessel. While R-1 was working the bowline, R-2 began to pump out the vessel. According to officers, the vessel was nearly full of water and extremely unstable, ultimately capsizing. As the vessel capsized, a 15-year-old was struck in the head by the bow rail, officers reported. Officer Sabino jumped into the water and helped bring the 15-year-old aboard a patrol boat. The 15-year-old suffered a contusion to the forehead, according to reports. The vessel was ultimately pulled to the launch ramp and righted, with the assistance of lifeguards.
Dana Point Harbor
Sept. 2 • 2:17 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that two vessels had collided near a dock end-tie.
Sept. 4 • 2:03 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 17-foot open powerboat in need of assistance, 300 yards offshore.
Aug. 3 • 5:25 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report that a personal watercraft was stuck in a kelp bed. Sept. 2 • 11:46 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a boater in reattaching a vessel to a mooring.
Aug. 29• 4:47 p.m. The Coast Guard requested that Ventura Harbor Patrol officers help look for two personal watercraft with two women aboard, who were reported missing. Officers located them off McGrath State Beach.
Aug. 30 • 3:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request for assistance from the operator of a boat that got a bag wrapped in its propeller, just outside the breakwater. Officers took the vessel in tow and were able to later release the boat, under its own power.
Sept. 1 • 12:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a disabled boat near the Launch Ramp, took it into tow, and released it at the fuel dock.
Channel Islands Harbor
Aug. 25 • 3 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an 18-foot vessel disabled near the Kiddie Beach. The vessel was towed back to its slip.
Aug. 26 • 7:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel taking on water in its slip. The vessel was assisted and later turned over to the owner for repair.
Aug. 30 • 8 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a visual distress signal observed offshore in the area of Hollywood Beach. The area was searched, but the “signal” was later found to be a lantern set off on the beach.
Sept. 1 • 1 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a gasoline odor in a local marina. A vessel was found to have a small fuel tank leaking on deck. The fuel was cleaned up and contained.
Sept. 2 • 5 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled boat near the surf at Silverstrand Beach. The vessel was towed back to the harbormaster dock.
Sept. 2 • 1 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized kayak in the harbor. The operators and the kayak were transported back to their slip.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Aug 27 • 10 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers and Santa Barbara Fire Department personnel responded aboard Patrol Boats #2 and #3 to a report of a vessel fire in the anchorage east of Stearns Wharf. While officers were en route to the scene, the boat’s owner was able to knock down the flames from an alcohol stove in the galley. Fire Department personnel confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished.
