Boater registration open for 52nd annual Holiday Afloat Parade

PORT OF LOS ANGELES – It’s time to decorate those vessels for the 52nd annual L.A. Harbor Holiday Afloat Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6.

Vessels that are decked out in Christmas lights, garland and everything that goes with the theme, “Holiday Treasures,” will parade down the Port of Los Angeles’ Main Channel at 6 p.m.

Gabriela Medina, Wilmington and Harbor City field deputy for 15th District Councilman Joe Buscaino, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Officials and community leaders will take part in the parade as judges or passengers aboard the anticipated 60 parade boats.

Vessels of all makes, models and sizes will participate, including powerboats, sailboats, tall ships and harbor working boats.

Boater registration  is open for the event with a $30 entry fee. The fee includes one admission to the parade awards brunch on Sunday, Dec. 7, at Los Angeles Yacht Club in San Pedro. Awards brunch tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door. Trophies will be awarded in the following categories: Theme; Traditional; Humorous; Holiday Spirit; Best Animation; Commercial; Most Original; Children’s Choice; Judge’s Choice and Grand Marshal’s Award.

Yacht clubs will also vie for the Perpetual Trophy, which is awarded to the club with the most entries.
