Chula Vista HarborFest Coming Sept. 21

CHULA VISTA — A boat parade, seafood, historic vessels, art, music and boat rides are all part of Chula Vista HarborFest, scheduled from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 21 at Bayside Park.

Attendees will enjoy a daylong event that will feature South Bay land and sea tours aboard the amphibious SEAL bus/boat. Festival-goers can also board and explore the tall ship Californian, the historic steam yacht Medea and a Vietnam War-era Swift Boat.

Boat owners with vintage or custom boats can enter the Craft Boat Show for a chance to take home the Mayor’s Choice or People’s Choice awards, along with first, second or third place honors.

Boaters who like to dress up their vessels — and themselves — can participate in pirate-theme boat parade. All boat parade participants will receive six taste tickets for HarborFest’s Baja Wine and Craft Beer Garden.

The party continues back on shore with live music at the main and community stages. DJ Star K, HipHop Anonymous and Kristi Krause are among the performers announced who will get the crowd up and dancing.

A children’s area with interactive activities will be available for kids. They can also get their hands dirty as they learn how to set up a home composting system.

Festival attendees can grab a bite at the weekend’s Seafood Fest, where dishes will be prepared by regional chefs — and they can enjoy a taste of wine or beer at the Baja Wine and Craft Beer Garden.

Professional BMX riders and an exotic car show will also be part of this year’s HarborFest.
