Gary Hill receives the Good Scout Award

NEWPORT BEACH — The Newport Sea Base presented Gary Hill with the 2016 Good Sea Scout Award on June 16 during a special celebration held at Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

Hill, owner of Hill’s Boat Service in Newport Harbor, was nominated for the award by a past honoree of the Good Sea Scout Award for his “long term commitment to philanthropy to see more youth enjoying the wonders of the ocean,” according to the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America.

“When I am out working on the water, it gives me great joy to see youth participating in the Newport Sea Base programs – rowing, sailing, swimming,” said Hill. “It is especially rewarding to see this learning on the water for kids who have never had the opportunity to be near the ocean.”

The event drew more than 200 guests to the club, raising more than $107,000 for the Newport Sea Base, which provides educational programs to more than 5,500 girls and boys annually. These programs in marine education help to promote teamwork, develops leadership, teaches nautical and safety skills and much more, according to a press release.

Prior award recipients include Tim Hogan, Bill Ficker, Morrelli and Melvin, Marshall “Duffy” Duffield, Dave Ullman and Duncan McIntosh to name a few.
