Marine Travelift delivers 100-metric-ton hoist to The Boat Yard

Marina del Rey repair yard now has five Travelifts to service vessels.

MARINA DEL REY — The Boat Yard at Marina del Rey has a new 100-metric-ton capacity boat hoist.

The hoist, delivered to The Boat Yard by Wisconsin-based Marine Travelift, would help the boating venue expand its presence on the West Coast, according to a released statement. The Boat Yard is now home to five Marine Travelift boat hoists.

“We purchased the 100 [metric ton] Marine Travelift in order to service the larger and wider vessels that call Marina Del Rey their home port,” Greg Schem, President and CEO at Harbor Real Estate Group, said in a released statement. “Prior to acquiring this machine, we were limited to a 60-ton machine with a 17-foot beam. This left a large segment of the market unserviceable by our boat yard. The new 100 [metric ton hoist] gives us a 28-foot beam, which in turn, allows us to service the larger mono-hulls as well as the flourishing catamaran market.”

Marina del Rey’s The Boat Yard is a full-service repair venue and marina. Adding a fifth travelift to its inventory, Schem said in a released statement, allows The Boat Yard to be a destination for boaters.

Marine Travelift’s hoist has several technological advances, according to Schem.

“The large top beam extension for sailboats, the wireless remote control unit, extremely quiet motor, and the extensive exterior lighting for emergency night haul-outs are among the most important features we depend upon on a daily basis,” Schem said.

Marine Travelift was established in 1954, but the first-ever mobile boat hoist was created and manufactured in the company’s home city of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in 1945.

The Boat Yard is located at 13555 Fiji Way in Marina del Rey and is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m.; contact the yard by phone (310-823-8964) or email (victor@tbymdr.com).
