Port district authorizes sponsorship agreement with San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association

The Port of San Diego’s Board of Port Commissioners approved a resolution to authorize a sponsorship agreement with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association. The sponsorship would be for $265,842 in port district services for the 2018 Bayside Summer Nights.
A summer concert series on the Downtown San Diego waterfront was approved in 2014.
Bayside Summer Nights has been held at Embarcadero Marina Park South, which is by the Marriott Marquis Hotel and Marina and near Fifth Avenue Landing, since 2004.
The sponsorship would be for service fee waivers (as opposed to actual financial support).
“Under this agreement, the symphony will provide the district with promotional considerations in return for the waiver of park fees,” port district staff stated in a report to commissioners. “Additionally, the Bayside Summer Nights Series is expected to attract more than 65,000 people in 2018 to the Port tidelands to enjoy a unique musical experience and frequent Port tenant businesses, including restaurants, parking facilities, hotels, and retail establishments.”
The summer concert series will run from June 29 to Sept. 2.
