Timothy Collins Named Chairman of ExplorOcean Board

Byline: The Log Staff

NEWPORT BEACH — Forty-year Balboa Peninsula resident Timothy Collins has been named chairman of the board for ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum (NHNM).

Collins, who has served as treasurer since joining the board as a trustee five years ago, replaces outgoing chair Tom Pollack. The two-year appointment became effective June 1.

“Tim has participated in our visioning process over the last three years and is primed to lead ExplorOcean/NHNM into its second 25 years of community enrichment,” said ExplorOcean president Rita Stenlund. “We are very pleased he has accepted the chairmanship, and we look forward to his leadership.”

Collins will be working to establish key goals for the museum over the next two years — focusing on recruiting a capital campaign board and securing leadership gifts; developing new education programming and exhibits that serve local schools, inspire visitors and preview what the museum refers to as “expanded cultural destination positioning;” attracting new members and growing revenue streams; and building upon the maritime history and nostalgic “Fun Zone” brand to enhance Balboa Village, and be a leader of its renaissance.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as chair for ExplorOcean” Collins said. “I believe wholeheartedly in the value of this iconic project, and I welcome the challenge of enhancing the legacy of the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum and creating a new place in history for ExplorOcean.”

Collins has focused the majority of his career on real estate services and finance.  Currently president of T.C. Collins and Associates, Collins is responsible for asset management overseeing 1.8 million square feet of multi-tenant commercial and industrial properties.

Collins has a long record of community service in Newport Beach, including eight years as a Harbor Commissioner. He was its first chairman.
