WSA Hosts Sailor/Writer Wendy Windebank April 10

Byline: The Log Staff

MARINA DEL REY — The Women’s Sailing Association’s guest speaker for the club’s April meeting is bareboat sailor Wendy Windebank, who will talk about her trip to Belize with her family in December 2007, on their bareboat sailing holiday.

Windebank, along with six family members, flew to Belize City and chartered an Athena 38 catamaran in Ambergris Caye in the north. From there, they sailed south stopping at about 10 different tropical islands, known as “cays,” with exotic names like Rendezvous, Caulker and Tobacco.

On the larger cays, they interacted with locals and learned about their lifestyles. On others, they had the idyllic experience of being the only ones there. On return to Belize after a week on the water, they visited the famous Lamanai Mayan ruins, and had a unique day cave-tubing through 5-mile-long caves.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. April 10, with a social hour, no-host cocktails and a hosted dinner. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by Windebank’s presentation at 8 p.m.

WSA meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, 13589 Mindanao Way in Marina del Rey, adjacent to Burton Chace Park.

Guests are welcome to attend at no charge for up to two meetings. For more information, email wsasmbmembership@gmail.com, or visit wsasmb.org.
