Riding the Rapids Steve Steinberg and Phil LeVine, friends since junior high school, recently returned from a weeklong 187-mile whitewater rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. Steinberg sails his Catalina 34 out of Falmouth, Massachusetts and Phil sails his Nonsuch 36 from Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro. Grand Canyons whitewater rafting trips can range from short excursions to a long trip 280 miles. A typical trip is 15 to 18 days long. Thrill seekers can run either the upper or lower sections of the canyon.
