Diesel Fuel Spill Contained in Huntington Harbour

Byline: Associated Press

HUNTINGTON BEACH (AP) — Containment booms were used to prevent the spread of a diesel fuel spill in Huntington Harbour, Jan. 4.

Huntington Beach Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lopez told City News Service that a fuel slick the size of a football field appeared in the harbor behind Peter’s Landing the night of Jan. 4. A department hazardous materials squad and the California Department of Fish and Game worked to contain the spill.

Lopez said Coast Guard and Orange County Sheriff’s Department boats and personnel helped stretch containment booms around the slick.

He reported there does not appear to be any damage to property or wildlife in the area. The source of the spill had not been determined at press time.
