Northern California Marine Association Finalizes Integration with NMMA

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has announced that it has integrated with the Northern California Marine Association (NCMA), in an attempt to help “reignite the industry in Northern California” and increase boating participation across the United States.

Representing Northern California marine industry companies since 1972, NCMA has provided a wide array of promotional services, educational programs and government relations efforts for members. The nonprofit organization has been looking for ways to improve offerings to its members and grow the industry in Northern California, however limited resources and a struggling economy have proved challenging.

“NMMA’s robust resources, in addition to its role as a leading producer of boat and sport shows, will help us to revitalize shows in Northern California and provide our members with growth opportunities,” said Gary Clausen, NCMA president, in a prepared statement.

NMMA, the national trade organization representing the recreational boating industry in North America, offers a variety of resources in marketing and communications, government relations advocacy, market research and statistics, and certification.

“NMMA continues to look for new and strategic ways to help all segments of the recreational boating industry anticipate, adapt and prosper from changes in the economic landscape,” said Thom Dammrich, NMMA president. “With NCMA’s integration, we can help devote resources to spur growth of recreational boating in Northern California.”

The association plans to bring a boat show to Northern California in 2014, Dammrich added.

According to NMMA, the association’s member companies produce more than 80 percent of the boats, engines, trailers, accessories and gear used by boaters and anglers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“We were pleased by the feedback NMMA received from the June 2012 integration with the Southern California Marine Association, and we expect our affiliation to strengthen the boating industry in Northern California,” Clausen said.

NCMA joins the former Southern California Marine Association in its integration with NMMA. In June, NMMA/NCMA members, who were not already NMMA members, will receive paid NMMA membership through May 31, 2015.

NCMA’s board of directors will become an advisory NMMA board.
