Inaugural San Francisco Boat Show Set for McCovey Cove and Pier 48

SAN FRANCISCO — From luxury motoryachts to personal watercraft, the latest in the world of boating will arrive at McCovey Cove and Pier 48 for the inaugural Progressive Insurance San Francisco Boat Show — Thursday, Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. The show is produced by the National marine Manufacturers Association.

Designed to offer something for everyone from novice sailors to longtime powerboaters, this four-day boating expo will showcase more than 150 new boats on land and in the water, plus the latest marine accessories, daily boating and sailing seminars, a chance to try stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking indoors, and more.

“The combination of McCovey Cove and Pier 48 creates the perfect setting for a premier boat show in the Bay Area,” said Dave Geoffroy, the show’s executive director. “The San Francisco Bay Area has not seen a boat show of this magnitude in a very long time, and we’re very excited to provide Northern California boaters and non-boaters alike a chance to enjoy and discover the boating lifestyle.”

McCovey Cove will be transformed into an in-the-water boat showroom, allowing visitors access to the larger luxury motoryachts, sailboats and sportfishers — plus, daily on-water boating workshops for those who want boating lessons. Inside, Pier 48 will be filled with trailerboats, ski boats and marine accessories, in addition to daily educational opportunities and boating fun for all ages.

Show highlights include Try It Cove inside Pier 48, an indoor pool, which will offer opportunities for attendees to get wet and try a variety of on-the-water activities — including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, inflatables and more.

At Discover Boating’s Hands-on Skills Training, professionals will offer free boat rides and hands-on boating workshops on San Francisco Bay — for beginners and experienced boaters.

Fred’s Shed DIY Seminars, presented in an interactive learning center, will offer expert advice and hands-on learning. Attendees will learn how to repair motors, perform regular maintenance, troubleshoot new technologies and more.

Dozens of free Boating and Sailing Seminars will be offered for boaters of all skill levels, inside Pier 48.

The show is set to take place at McCovey Cove and Pier 48, 24 Willie Mays Plaza (adjacent to AT&T Park). Show hours are noon-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

One-day tickets are $12 for adults; free for children 15 and younger (when accompanied by an adult). Active military, fire and police personnel are free with ID.
