Bubbles Staying for the Summer

AVALON — Bubble Rollers — inflatable contraptions that allow users to float and roll on water — are here to stay, all summer long. The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce brought over Bubble Rollers for the annual Flying Fish Festival — and they proved to be so popular, they will continue operating throughout the summer.

Visitors eager to try out the new toys can stop at Island Tour Plaza any day of the week and attempt to “walk on water.”

Bubble Rollers allows users to run, walk, skip, jump, roll and float on water without getting wet, thanks to their special design. The spheres are 6.5 feet in diameter and made of thermoplastic polyurethane, closing with a waterproof zipper.

Each “roll” on the water takes users around five to eight minutes. There is no need to worry about running out of air, as each Bubble Roller ball contains about 40-plus minutes worth of oxygen.

Users can get opposing Bubble Rollers and “battle” their friends, try to see how long they can stay balanced, or see who can walk the farthest distance. Falls are tumbles are expected, but painless.

Bubble Rollers are located in Avalon at the Island Tour Plaza, against the Golf Gardens fence line and are available 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily through summer. Tickets can be purchased for $8 in the Tour Plaza or Green Pier at the Discovery Tours/Catalina Expeditions ticket booths.
