Catalina Island Women’s Forum presents annual Wine Festival

AVALON — Mariners are invited to sample vino and munch on light appetizers during the annual Wine Festival at Avalon on Sept. 17.

More than 70 wineries will be pouring at the event hosted by the Catalina Women’s Forum. Live music, appetizers and a silent auction will be held during the festival.

A special presentation will be held during the event as Southern California Edison will present a $5,000 STEM grant to the Catalina Island Women’s Forum for mentoring and scholarship programs. The funds will go toward 2017 graduating seniors studying in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math.

Proceeds from the festival benefit the organization’s mission of supporting women of Avalon.

The festival is held concurrently as the Festival of Art, which is hosted by the Catalina Art Association. The free street fair runs 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 16-18 along Crescent Avenue. Guests can purchase fine art, sculptures, fine crafts and photography. For more information, visit catalinaartassociation.org.

The Catalina Island Women’s Forum is a nonprofit assisting women’s wellness, domestic violence prevention, educational scholarships and mentoring for high school girls living on Catalina.

The Wine Festival will be held from 2-5 p.m. at the Oceanfront along the bay at South Beach near Crescent and Clarissa Ave. Tickets can be purchased at catalinawinefest.com.
