Sommeliers to converge at annual wine festival

Catalina Wine Mixer returns to Avalon Sept. 23-25.
AVALON — Wine aficionados, sommeliers or those new to the wine tasting scene will cruise over to Catalina Island for three-days of sipping, swirling and sampling wines from numerous wineries in September.
Hosted by the Santa Catalina Island Company, the event is scheduled from 3-10 p.m., Sept. 23-25 at Descanso Beach Club in Avalon.
Guests will enjoy wine with Avalon Bay as their backdrop. Gourmet hors d’oeuvres will also be a feature of the event along with live music.
A portion of the event’s proceeds is donated to the community. In 2016 the Santa Catalina Island Company donated $6,132.50 to the Santa Catalina Island Foundation to provide college scholarships to island students.
