Craig and Linda Lyons Win Landmark Quiz

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, was the location shown in our most recent landmark quiz (in the Aug. 19-Sept. 1 issue) — and the first grand prize winners to provide the correct answer are Craig and Linda Lyons of the sailing vessel Argo.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said Craig Lyons, upon seeing the photo in The Log showing giant pilings in an unnamed marina.

“The marina is in Puerto Peñasco (aka) Rocky Point,” he explained. “The marina is the Singlar docks, and the second boat in is Hakuna Matata. I have taken her on many fishing trips and overnight explorations to Baja.” The Lyons said they started sailing in 2008 and love Mexico.

The Lyons and two other boaters correctly identified the landmark. They can all claim to be sharp-eyed “masters of the crow’s nest,” and they each are receiving a free copy of “Mexico Boating Guide.”

“We not only keep our boat here in Puerto Peñasco,” said Lyons, “we also built a little casita just a couple of blocks from the beach and the marina. We travel back and forth to Tucson weekly and have never had any problems at all. Puerto Peñasco is very safe. In our harbor, we have several little marinas with power, water and wi-fi.”

Thanks for all the correct responses and all the good guesses. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Landmark Quiz.
