SAN DIEGO COUNTY

Oceanside Harbor
July 17 • Noon Oceanside Harbor Police officers located a small sailboat capsized about a mile outside of the harbor, with three people on board: two adults and one 14-year-old. Officer David Cunniff was able to secure two of the passengers on a rescue boat. Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguard Division personnel and an Oceanside Police harbor unit responded aboard a second police rescue boat. The third person, who was standing on the capsized boat, was removed by lifeguards. The vessel was righted and towed in.

ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
July 20 • 12:44 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers towed a personal watercraft back to its rental company.
July 20 • 4:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers towed a boat to J Cove.

Newport Harbor
July 14 • 11:19 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a boat accident in which a 25-foot high-performance powerboat and a small vessel reportedly collided near the Newport Harbor jetty. Four people were sent to a local hospital and were treated for their injuries.
July 25 • 7:38 p.m.  Harbor Patrol officers towed a boat to East Bayfront.


VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor
July 7 • 12:30 a.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers were dispatched to a vessel that had been reported to be emitting smoke. Officers in a fireboat and a patrol boat responded and found no fire. Fire and Harbor Patrol personnel secured the vessel and it in the owner’s care.
July 7 • 10:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel near the north harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to a residence.
July 7 • 4:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an overturned canoe in the harbor entrance. Officers arrived on the scene with county lifeguards and assisted the canoe passengers. They people aboard were able to right the canoe and get underway again.
July 7 • 6:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a vessel having trouble maneuvering near the harbormaster dock. Officers towed the boat to the launch ramp.
July 9 • 6:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a boat in the outer harbor that was reportedly extremely close to the surf line. Officers towed the vessel to the launch ramp.
July 9 • 9:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a dinghy adrift outside of the harbor. Officers responded and towed the dinghy to a sailboat nearby that had lost the tender.
July 13 • 5:25 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call of a boat fire outside the harbor entrance. A cloud of smoke was clearly visible from the harbormaster dock, according to reports. Officers responded, aboard the fireboat. On their arrival, they reportedly found no fire and no problem — but they escorted the vessel to the dock for further investigation.
July 14 • 3 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call from a 36-foot sailboat that was disabled in the main basin. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at a local marina.
July 14 • 6:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 43-foot powerboat that was disabled and drifting toward the north jetty. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at a local marina.
July 16 • 2:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a person in the water, next to a kayak in the main basin. Officers assisted the person to get back aboard the kayak.

Ventura Harbor
July 10 • 10:35 a.m.
A boater reported a large oil spill at a local marina, and Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded by vehicle and boat. There was a light sheen on the water, but officers were unable to locate its source.
July 11• 12:01 p.m.  Harbor Patrol officers observed a disabled vessel in the harbor entrance, took it in tow and released it at a local boatyard.
July 13 • 10:28 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a tire and wheel with a metal pole welded to it, in the water. They removed the items from the water.
July 14 • 3:35 p.m. State lifeguards reported that a personal watercraft was disabled by the pier. Harbor Patrol officers responded, took the PWC in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
July 16 • 12:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of someone suffering cardiac arrest on a vessel at the fish offloading dock. They provided CPR and AED support, and the patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
July 21 • 11:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed an electric boat that was disabled in the Harbor. The vessel was released at its slip in the Keys.
July 21 • 11:55 p.m.  Harbor Patrol officers observed two PWCs disabled by the north jetty, took both in tow and released them at the launch ramp.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor
July 14 • 8:34 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers and Santa Barbara Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a boat explosion, approximately 3 miles off Henry’s Beach, in gale conditions. The found a boat with bright squid lights, about 2 miles south of the reported location. The vessel matched the description provided by the reporting party. Officers believe the operator of the vessel had turned on his halogen lights and then turned them off, causing a bright flash that was mistaken for an explosion and fire.
July 15 • 4:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a kite surfer in distress, about a quarter mile off Santa Barbara Yacht Club. Officers located the surfer, who was reportedly exhausted and clinging to his board. They assisted the surfer aboard the patrol vessel, retrieved his kite and safety transported him back to shore.
July 16 • 6:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel fire at Marina 2. Officers contacted a subject on board the vessel, who said he woke up to flames. The subject was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire caused minor damage to the vessel and the subject suffered minor burns to his arms and legs, according to officers’ reports. Santa Barbara fire inspectors investigated. According to Harbor Patrol reports, officers later found drug paraphernalia inside the subject’s backpack. Santa Barbara Police responded, placed the subject under arrest and transported him to the police department for questioning.
July 17 • 3:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a juvenile skateboarder down, at the base of Stearns Wharf. The officer contacted and assessed the victim, who suffered cuts and bruises to his hands and face, a split lip and a possible broken cheekbone, according to reports. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, for further evaluation.
July 20 • 2:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers searched harbor parking lots in their patrol vehicle for a missing elderly man. The man was later found near the launch ramp, and he was transported safety back to his nursing facility.
