SAN DIEGO COUNTY
Mission Bay
July 2 • 3:29 p.m.
San Diego Lifeguard Service lifeguards confirmed a great white shark sighting, close to an area of swimmers between Marine Room and Scripps Beach. Lifeguards conducted a thorough search of the area for two hours via land, air and sea; and the area was closed for the remainder of the day.
July 3 • 3:28 p.m. Lifeguards requested a rescue vessel to check on the welfare of passengers aboard a boat stranded on a sandbar near Kendall-Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve. Vessel occupants were clear and decided to wait it out with the boat until high tide.
July 5 • 10:15 a.m. Lifeguards requested Coast Guard assistance in a fuel spill at Hyatt Marina in Mission Bay.
July 5 • 2:03 p.m. Lifeguards received a report of a vessel aground on Mission Bay. Lifeguards responded via a rescue vessel and towed the boat off a sandbar.
July 5 • 2:56 p.m. Lifeguards received a report of a vessel on the rocks. Lifeguards responded aboard a rescue vessel, and the boat was towed to open water.
July 6 • 2:45 p.m. Lifeguards received a report of a sailboat in Sail Bay with a downed mast. Lifeguards respond via a rescue vessel and provided an emergency tow to Mission Bay Yacht Club.
July 7 • 2:17 p.m. Boating Safety Unit lifeguards assisted a disabled vessel and towed the boat to Mission Bay YC.
July 7 • 10:24 p.m. The Boating Safety Unit Night Crew responded to a report of a stolen vessel. Lifeguards impounded the vessel.
July 8 • 3:08 p.m. Boating Safety Unit lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel accident on Mission Bay. Paramedics transported a boater to a local hospital.
July 8 • 5:21 p.m. Boating Safety Unit and Ocean Beach lifeguards responded to a report of two kayak operators needing assistance on the South Channel Jetty. Ocean beach lifeguards assisted and transport victims.

ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
July 4 • 1:16 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a red and white ski boat with four people aboard came to within a few feet of surfers in the water off the Boneyard area.
July 4 • 2:44 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received reports of subjects throwing water balloons from Island Way Bridge onto passing boats.
July 4 • 7:57 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a subject who was apprehended in the West Basin had tried to steal a dinghy. The boat was eventually located off Heisler Park in Laguna Beach.
July 4 • 8:36 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers towed an 18-foot powerboat stranded off Salt Creek Beach with four people aboard to the launch ramp.
July 10 • 2:04 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a spill of 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid into the harbor, reportedly during work on a boat. Workers laid out six booms and used absorbent pads to clean the area. All required notifications were made, according to police reports.
July 10 •  Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operator of a 19-foot powerboat that was dead in the water near the harbor entrance and took the vessel in tow.

Newport Harbor
July 5 • 1:39 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received numerous reports of a boat allegedly operating at high speed and colliding with several other boats. No injuries were reported. The boat’s operator was reportedly spotted on foot near the Cannery restaurant, and officers contacted the suspect.
July 7 • 5:23 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers discovered a small boat left unattended at the emergency dock. The vessel was impounded.
July 7 • 8:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operators of a 22-foot powerboat that had lost power near the harbor entrance. Three people were aboard, including a 1-year-old child. The boat was towed to the launch ramp.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
July 6 • 6:14 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 30-foot power boat that had become grounded 50 feet from shore, on its side. One person was on board, and the boat was reportedly high and dry. The boat’s operator contacted a commercial towing assistance company for a salvage operation.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Long Beach Harbor
June 30 • 2 p.m.
Long Beach Police Boat 1 observed a person aboard an 18-foot powerboat with a hand-held red flare in the Echo Anchorage area. The vessel was a rental boat from Rainbow Harbor and had fouled its prop in the line attached to a commercial mooring buoy. Officers cleared the line from the vessel’s propeller and the operator returned to Rainbow Harbor.
July 6 • 9 a.m. Long Beach Police Boat 1 conducted a vessel stop in Alamitos Bay Marina. A vessel’s voyage was terminated after it was determined that the boat did not have any life jackets on board at the start of a voyage to Catalina. The operator was issued a citation. According to police, a passenger aboard the vessel was also cited for possession of marijuana.
July 7 • 1 p.m. Long Beach Police Boat 1 discovered a disabled rental electric boat across from the fuel dock in Alamitos Bay. The passengers aboard the vessel reported smoke coming from the battery area, and they were transferred to the police boat. The vessel was taken in tow and returned to the rental dock, where Long Beach Fire Department Rescue Boat 1 determined there was no further fire danger.

VENTURA COUNTY
Channel Islands Harbor
June 1 • 12:40 p.m.
Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 22-foot vessel disabled at Kiddie Beach. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.

Ventura Harbor

June 27 • 10:10 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers relayed a message for a lost vessel that appeared to be outside of Ventura Harbor. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers were able to locate the vessel, escorted it into the harbor and took it in tow, when the operator had difficultly maneuvering it. Officers moored the vessel at the long dock, and Vessel Assist towed the boat back to its harbor in the morning.
June 30 • 12:41 p.m. State Lifeguards reported they were responding to a disabled PWC off Greenock Lane. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, took the PWC into tow and released it at the launch ramp.
June 30 • 2:50 p.m.
Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a sailboat in distress and possibly involved in an accident between Ventura Isle Marina and Ventura West Marina. Officers responded, assessed minor damage, assisted in an exchange of information and took the vessel in tow, back to Ventura Harbor Village.
July 1 • 11:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request to relieve a vessel of its tow at buoy 2V. Patrol took the disabled vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
July 1 • 3 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a disabled vessel in the main channel, took it in tow and released it at Ventura Yacht Club.
July 4 • 10:13 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report from a skipper that his vessel was disabled at Buoy 2. Officers responded, took the boat in tow and released the vessel at Ventura Isle Marina.
July 5 • 9:35 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel collision near Ventura Isle Marina. Officers investigated, photographed the damage, and passed information to both parties involved in the incident.
July 7 • 4:25 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a disabled vessel in the main channel. Officers towed the vessel to the launch ramp.
July 7 • 4:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a floating pedal boat in the kelp at Pierpont Basin. Officers towed the craft from the kelp and ultimately back to the boat’s rental company, as the boys who were operating the vessel were having difficulty, according to reports.
July 7 • 6:18 p.m. A fishing vessel operator reported an accidental spill while transferring diesel from one tank to the other. Harbor Patrol officers responded and found that the skipper had deployed an absorbent boom to attempt to contain the 5-gallon spill. The boom was working fairly well, but the wind was blowing some fuel toward the fuel dock. Harbor Patrol officers notified the National Response Center of the spill. No other action was taken.
July 8 • 6:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed an electric boat that had become disabled near the launch ramp. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at its dock in Ventura Keys.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
June 22 • 3:45 p.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers received a call from the Coast Guard reporting there was a 5- to 10-barrel spill oil earlier in the day, from Platform Houchin. Coast Guard and Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) personnel walked the beach, checking to see if any oil made it to shore. Clean Seas responded and was finishing cleanup operations at 4 p.m. *eot
