LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Long Beach Harbor
March 9 • 3:30 p.m. Long Beach Police Boat 1 personnel responded to a 30-foot sportfisher that reported a fire on board. All four passengers were taken aboard the police boat and Long Beach Fire Department Rescue Boat 2 personnel checked the vessel. Lifeguards determined that an electrical problem had created a small amount of smoke, and the vessel was towed to Downtown Marina for further investigation. All passengers were returned to the vessel after it was determined to be safe.
March 11 • Noon Long Beach Police Boat 1 personnel responded to a 20-foot powerboat in danger of going on the rocks at Oil Island Grissom. The vessel was towed to Downtown Marina to await assistance from Sea Tow.

Marina del Rey
March 3 • 2:36 p.m.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marina del Rey Marine Enforcement deputies responded to a report of a vessel burglary in the area near H Basin. An investigation is ongoing.
March 4 • 4:08 p.m. Deputies responded to a call of a sinking vessel at the entrance to G Basin. The boat crew rescued two women from a boat. The deputies were able to stabilize the vessel and tow it back to its mooring.
March 8 • 9:36 p.m. The Marina del Rey Boat Crew responded to a report of a vessel going onto the detached breakwater. All passengers were recovered safely, and the vessel was later salvaged from the rocks.

VENTURA COUNTY

Ventura Harbor
March 17 • 11:52 p.m. The dockmaster and Ventura Harbor Patrol officers monitored a vessel that was sitting low in the water. Officers observed water over the floorboards and pumped out about 1 foot of water.

Channel Islands Harbor
Feb. 26 • 10:15 a.m.
Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a 55-foot vessel disabled in the main basin. The vessel was towed to its slip.
March 5 • 7:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a 28-foot vessel that had sunk at the dock. Absorbent booms and pads were placed around the vessel. Commercial salvage operators refloated the vessel and towed it to a boatyard.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor March 10 • 12:30 a.m.
Harbor Patrol officers witnessed a large man lift a “no bicycling” sign off of the sidewalk and throw it into the harbor. Officers reportedly recognized the suspect as having received a citation for riding his bike on the sidewalk a day earlier. In addition to the original infraction, misdemeanor vandalism charges were filed.
March 10 • 1:55 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers observed two men exiting a recently impounded sailing vessel. Both were cited for trespassing.
March 16 • 9:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a dead pigeon on a neighboring vessel’s dock steps. The reporting party mentioned that the neighbor has a pigeon problem on the vessel and thought the display of the dead fowl was a “statement.” The foul fowl was discarded, and officers left a message for the boat owner to check the vessel for the reported pigeon problem.
