ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
Nov. 2 • 12:38 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report from a boater that someone had allegedly stolen items from his vessel.
Nov. 11 • 4:12 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that subjects on a commercial fishing boat were filleting fish and throwing the carcasses back into the harbor.

Newport Harbor
Nov. 9 • 2:46 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of an injured seagull with a fishing line and lure wrapped around its beak.
Nov. 12 • 11:44 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report from a boater who said his dinghy was stolen by a person that boater had befriended a couple of days earlier. The suspect left a note stating that he borrowed the tender and would leave it secured to the main boat. The dinghy never returned.
Nov. 13 • 3:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a small sailboat at a mooring and a personal watercraft were covered with sea lions.
Nov. 16 • 2:02 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a mooring had broken free, with two boats tied off to it.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Marina del Rey
Oct. 18 • 3:20 p.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol officers received a report that a vessel was sinking approximately 12 miles offshore. The vessel requested assistance via VHF radio. A search was conducted by Coast Guard, Baywatch and Sheriff’s Department personnel. The vessel was located and taken in tow.
Oct. 27 • 5:50 p.m. Marine Patrol officers received a report that a vessel near E-Basin had engine failure. The vessel requested assistance via VHF radio. When deputies arrived, the boater was able to get his engine started and returned to his slip, with an escort from the patrol boat for safety.
Nov. 10 • 2 p.m. Marine Patrol officers received a report that a vessel near G-Basin was taking on water. The vessel was taken in tow and an emergency pump was used to dewater the vessel. The boat was towed to its slip without further incident.

VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor
Nov. 10 • 3:45 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers received a mayday call from a vessel, stating the boat had lost steering and was heading toward the beach. Officers located the vessel, safely at anchor near the beach. The vessel was taken in tow and released at its slip.
Nov. 10 • 6:25 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted Coast Guard personnel with a vessel in tow that was previously taking on water. Harbor Patrol officers relieved the Coast Guard of the tow and completed de-watering operations. The vessel was later towed to the launch ramp.

Ventura Harbor
Nov. 1 • 7 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a boat on the rocks in Ventura Harbor. Officers located the vessel in the main channel and got it off the rocks, with the assistance of Vessel Assist personnel. The boat’s owner was given permission to moor at the launch ramp for two days.
Nov. 9 • 9:47 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a vessel was taking on water at its slip at Ventura West Marina. Officers responded and de-watered the vessel.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor
Oct. 29 • 1:25 p.m.  Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers assisted University of California, Santa Barbara sailing school staff members with a capsized Capri sailboat. Harbor Patrol officers helped two students out of the water. A sailing instructor righted the vessel and returned to the dock.
Nov. 2 • 3:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers aboard Patrol Boat #2 responded to the anchorage on a report of a sailboat that was overturned, with multiple people in the water. Harbor Patrol officers located the sailboat Double Dolphin, which had reported the incident, alongside the overturned boat — outside the swim buoys, 1 mile east of the harbor. Double Dolphin’s crew pulled eight people from the water, officers pulled one person aboard, and two people swam to the beach. The overturned vessel was a 21-foot rental boat from the Sailing Center. Only the rental boat’s 0stern was up out of the water; the bow was resting on the bottom. No injuries were reported, and all passengers were accounted for. The boat was recovered by Sailing Center staff and was returned to the dock.

Ventura Harbor
Nov. 1 • 7 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a boat on the rocks in Ventura Harbor. Officers located the vessel in the main channel and got it off the rocks, with the assistance of Vessel Assist personnel. The boat’s owner was given permission to moor at the launch ramp for two days.
