SAN DIEGO COUNTY
San Diego Bay
Oct. 18 • 7:19 a.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a vessel in distress off the tip of Point Loma. San Diego Harbor Police and San Diego Lifeguards responded and discovered a vessel had lost power and was anchored in the surf zone. Two people aboard were rescued and brought to Shelter Island for medical transport to a nearby hospital. The vessel eventually capsized and washed up on the shore. Harbor Police completed a vessel accident report. One of the boaters sustained minor injuries.
Oct. 20 • 4:15 p.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a theft aboard a Celebrity cruise ship. A ring worth more than $12,000 was reported stolen. Cruise ship personnel eventually recovered the stolen property from a passenger on board and declined to press charges. Harbor Police documented the incident.
Oct. 23 • 8:55 a.m. Harbor Police officers cited a boater for not having a PFD on board his dinghy.
Oct. 24 • 8:39 p.m. Harbor Police stopped a dinghy with no navigation lights, with a single occupant, drifting aimlessly on San Diego Bay. The person aboard was taken into custody and cited on a charge of public intoxication.
Oct. 27 • Harbor Police officers received a report of several stolen outboard engines from a marina on Harbor Island. Harbor Police officers documented the stolen items with a crime report.
Oct. 28 • 11 a.m. Harbor Police responded to a report of an injured person at a marina on Shelter Island. San Diego Fire Department personnel transported a female adult victim to a nearby hospital for treatment.

ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Oct. 26 • 7:26 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 30-foot sailboat with six people on board, drifting inside the breakwater at the harbor entrance due to engine failure. The vessel was towed to the East Basin.

Newport Harbor
Oct. 31 • 5:18 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of three to four large sea lions boarding a 20-foot boat and nearly sinking the vessel. The boat’s owner was notified.

VENTURA COUNTY
Channel Islands Harbor
Oct. 16 • 9:45 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 30-foot boat aground in the dredge pond area of Hollywood Beach. The vessel was removed from a shoal and towed to the harbormaster dock.
Oct. 21 • 2 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 54-foot vessel in the main basin. The vessel was towed to a private marina.
Oct. 25 • 11:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 22-foot vessel disabled near the rocks bear Light #1. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp.
Oct. 26 • 6:05 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 20-foot vessel disabled south of the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to a private marina.

Ventura Harbor
Oct. 15 • 7:40 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol reported that there was a vessel aground between Channel Island Harbor and Ventura Harbor. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers passed the information to a Coast Guard vessel that was outbound. They located the vessel north of the Santa Clara River, hard aground. All persons were uninjured and accounted for. Harbor Patrol officers contacted a salvage company, which took over the call. officers assisted in gathering materials off the beach and arranging transportation for the passengers.
Oct. 15 • 8:24 p.m. The operator of a disabled vessel requested a tow from outside the breakwater. The vessel’s anchor was deployed at holding. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, took the vessel in tow to the launch ramp and released it.
Oct. 17 • 6:51 a.m. A commercial fishing vessel operator reported a two-person kayak offshore with one person in the water, clinging to the kayak. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, found the situation as reported and brought the person who was in the water aboard their patrol boat. Officers transported the kayak and its passengers to the Harbor Patrol dock and released them.
Oct. 21 • 4:37 p.m. Ventura Yacht Club reported a vessel taking on water at its slip. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded with two boats, dewatered the subject vessel in 15 minutes and looked for a source of the water with the boat’s owner. They were unable to determine the source of the water.
Oct. 22 • 9:20 a.m. Ventura Isle Marina reported that a vessel was taking on water at its slip. Harbor Patrol officers responded and found the boat sitting low in the water. Officers cut off a lock to gain entry, notified the boat’s owner and dewatered the vessel for 15 minutes. At the owner’s request, officers towed the boat to a local boatyard.
Oct. 23 • 8:24 p.m. Ventura Police officers reported that a 14-foot skiff was going against the rocks at the south jetty. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded and found that the vessel was operational, but operators had to abandon four hoop-nets that were outside of the breakwater because of rough seas.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Oct. 19 • 1:35 p.m. While Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers were towing a disabled vessel back to the harbor, a Jack Russell terrier puppy jumped off the boats bow into the water while under way. After 20 seconds, the small canine resurfaced. The puppy was rescued and returned to its owner.
Oct. 23 • 9:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to the #3 buoy on a report of a distressed swimmer, holding on. The subject was brought aboard Patrol Boat #3 and transported back to shore. He was evaluated and transported to a local hospital.
Oct. 25 • 2:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized catamaran, 1 mile south of the harbor. The catamaran was righted, but the vessel capsized again. It was towed back to Catamaran Beach.
Oct. 26 • 9:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a sailboat 3 miles southwest of the harbor that had blown out to sea from the anchorage area east of Stearns Wharf. Harbor Patrol contacted the owner, who was paddling in a kayak with his vessel in tow back to the harbor. When asked if he needed assistance, the owner reportedly replied, “I got myself into this mess, and as soon as the wind comes up, I’ll get myself out.” The vessel was back in the anchorage approximately 3 hours later.
Oct. 28 • 5:29 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a call on West Beach reporting a subject leaving a restaurant without paying. The subject was located at the water’s edge, in company of the restaurant’s manager. While interviewing the suspect, he attempted to flee on foot, into the ocean. He was placed in custody and charged with defrauding an innkeeper and resisting/interfering with a peace officer.
