ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Sept. 28 • 1:48 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 27-foot sailboat drifting sideways and seeming to have lost steering. Officers assisted the boat’s operator with a tow.
Sept. 30 • 6:09 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 20-foot sailboat at the harbor entrance. Officers towed the vessel to the launch ramp.
Oct. 1 • 1:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 40-foot boat dragging anchor, with two people aboard unable to control it. Officers took the boat in tow to the guest docks.
Oct. 2 • 1:08 p.m. A boater reported to Harbor Patrol officers that tools had been stolen from aboard her vessel in West Basin. Her keys had been reported stolen earlier in the week.
Oct. 2 • 1:08 p.m. A boater at a guest slip reported an alleged assault to Harbor Patrol officers, claiming that a contractor had tried to hit her.

Newport Harbor
Sept. 28 • 1:42 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a 20-foot fishing vessel with four people aboard had gone over at the Newport Dunes launch ramp. Vessel Assist responded and found the boat 6 feet into the water. No fuel was spilled.
Sept. 28 • 5:38 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 42-foot powerboat colliding with several vessels in the Rhine Channel.
Sept. 29 • 3:07 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 30-foot sailboat with four people aboard weaving through the J Mooring Field and nearly colliding with several vessels.
Sept. 30 • 5:49 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a homeowner attempting to extend the dock of a waterfront home in the 3200 block of Marcus into the channel, allegedly creating a navigation hazard.
Oct. 1 • 4:49 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 26-foot fishing boat sinking in its slip. Officers found the vessel on its side, with about 80 gallons of diesel fuel on board. No fuel had spilled, but oil absorbing booms were deployed as a precaution. Vessel Assist was called to salvage the boat.
Oct. 3 • 4:49 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a high-performance powerboat possibly colliding with another vessel near moorings. Officers checked area boats for signs of damage.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Sept. 28 • 1:40 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 24-foot deck boat with engine trouble. The boater was taken to the fuel dock.
Sept. 30 • 12:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of an emergency at the Pacific Coast Highway bridge, with two people in the water. Officers aided the occupants of a small powerboat and towed the vessel back to the beach across from a local boatyard.

VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor
Sept. 19 • 2:10 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers monitored a radio call from a boater reporting his boat was disabled behind the breakwater. Officers responded, took the vessel in tow and released it at the harbor entrance.
Sept. 22 • 7:39 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a sailboat on the beach south of Surfer’s Knoll. Upon officers’ arrival, the vessel was discovered to be hard aground and the boat’s operator had walked ashore with no injuries. Officers contacted Vessel Assist, which was able to get the vessel off the beach, but not before its hull had split.
Sept. 22 • 4:03 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers took over a tow at the harbor entrance and released the vessel at the launch ramp.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Sept. 28 • 3 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fishing vessel that sank in its slip at Marina 1. The owner was contacted and salvaged his vessel.
Sept. 30 • 7:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a paddleboarder at Leadbetter Beach who fell off his paddleboard and hit his head on the board. Officers used c-spine immobilization for the patient, who was also diabetic. His blood sugar was tested and it was normal. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
