San Diego Bay
Dec. 27 • 3:59 p.m.
San Diego Harbor Police officers responded to a report of an attempted theft of a dinghy on Shelter Island. The victim reported he discovered a male juvenile attempting to take his dinghy, and that the juvenile had damaged it in the process. The suspect fled on foot. Officers searched the area with negative results and filed a crime report.
Dec. 28 • 8:36 p.m. Harbor Police officers contacted a boater near Buoy 16. The boater’s vessel had lost power and was
creating a hazard to navigation, according to reports. The boat was towed to the Shelter Island launch ramp, and the boater was cited for not having sufficient personal flotation devices for passengers on board.
Dec. 28 • 9:55 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of an environmental pollution incident near Shelter Island. A diesel spill from an unknown source was reported. Officers documented the incident.
Dec. 29 • 5:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a call of a boater in distress near 32nd Street. A small inflatable boat reportedly had lost power due to a fuel line breakage. Officers arrived and provided a courtesy tow, due to safety concerns.
Jan. 9 • 2 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report that a vessel suspected of smuggling had been abandoned at the Chula Vista launch ramp. The incident was reported to Customs and Border Protection personnel.
ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
Dec. 29 • 4:41 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operator of an overheating 26-foot powerboat, near the harbor entrance.
Dec. 29 • 5:09 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a boater who had become lost in fog off Dana Point. Officers escorted the vessel.
Jan. 4 • 7:17 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat collision near Dana Point Marina’s West Basin.
Jan. 4 • 12:52 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat adrift near the harbor entrance. Officers towed the vessel to the launch ramp, from the bait barge.
Jan. 4 • 5:11 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident near the outer west jetty. A 30-foot sailboat had run aground on the breakwall. Officers located the vessel, but no assistance was needed.
Jan. 5 • 5:44 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident near East Island, attributed to gasoline in the bilge.
Jan. 6 • 11:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident near the East Cove.
Jan. 6 • 5:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a stolen boat near a waterfront restaurant.


Newport Harbor
Dec. 26 • 2:51 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an inflatable boat adrift near the 1400 block of Bay.
Dec. 26 • 4:04 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the operator of a rental skiff near the East Jetty that had broken down. The vessel was initially able to move under its own power, and officers followed it back to the rental company. The vessel broke down again, so officers towed the boat the rest of the way.
Dec. 26 • 6:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 24-foot sportfisher allegedly operating in a reckless manner near a local yacht club.
Dec. 29 • 7:21 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a rental electric boat with five people on board that was snagged in a mooring line. The rental boat was submerged and unable to detach.
Dec. 30 • 7:13 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 16-foot electric runabout boat that was snagged in mooring lines and needed to be towed to Linda Isle.
Jan. 7 • 11 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat found near Lido Peninsula.
Jan. 8 • 3:28 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing an electric runabout boat back to Via Lido Soud, after it had become entangled in mooring lines near Bay Island.
Jan. 10 • 12:54 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill near Yachtsman’s Cove.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Dec. 22 • 7:41 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill near Trinidad Island.
Dec. 29 • 11:19 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers aided a vessel near Pacific Coast Highway Bridge and towed it to the launch ramp.
Jan. 2 • 1:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat fire near Bolsa Chica State Beach. Officers reported a 30-foot cruiser had overheated, and they towed the vessel to Alamitos Bay.
Jan. 7 • 10:47 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted in towing a 23-foot bay cruiser, near Warner Street.


LOS ANGELES COUNTY

King Harbor
Jan. 2 • 9:59 a.m.
Redondo Beach Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized 12-foot aluminum boat with three people in the water, outside the King Harbor breakwater. Officers located the vessel and found that two passengers from the capsized boat had already been taken aboard a passing vessel. Officers recovered the last victim and transported the person to shore. No injuries were reported. The accident is still under investigation.
Marina del Rey
Dec. 31 • 11:55 p.m.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marine Enforcement deputies enforced a safety zone for the New Year’s fireworks show.
Jan. 1 • 8:34 a.m. Marine Enforcement deputies responded to a report of a man trespassing at the Union East dock. The man was arrested.
Jan. 3 • 1:34 p.m. Marine Enforcement deputies stopped a vessel in the main channel and cited the owner for not having required safety equipment aboard.
Jan. 5 • 3:36 p.m. Marine Enforcement deputies responded to a report of a boater in danger of going aground, due to engine failure. The vessel was located and towed to the launch ramp.


VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor
Jan. 1 • 2:50 p.m.
Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 41-foot sailboat disabled in the outer harbor. The vessel was taken in tow and released at a local marina.
Jan. 3 • 11:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 22-foot powerboat that was disabled and anchored near the surf line by Silverstand Beach. The vessel was taken in tow and released at the harbormaster’s dock.
Jan. 5 • 12:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers — along with Ventura County and Oxnard fire department personnel and Gold Coast Ambulance personnel — responded to a swimmer in distress at the south jetty. The swimmer made it safely to the jetty. A rescue swimmer from Oxnard Fire Department transferred the swimmer from the rocks to a Harbor Patrol boat, which transported him to the harbormaster’s dock. The swimmer was assessed by Gold Coast Ambulance personnel and released.
Jan. 8 • 9 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 23-foot sailboat disabled offshore. The vessel was taken in tow and released at the small boat marina.


Ventura Harbor
Dec. 28 • 9:30 a.m.
Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel taking on water, 2 miles from the harbor. Vessel Assist also responded. The skipper was able to stop the water by turning off the engine. Officers transferred crew to the boat and assisted Vessel Assist in dewatering the vessel. The skipper began to display signs of medical problems, according to reports. The fire department was dispatched, and upon arrival, the patient was evaluated. The patient refused transportation to a local hospital.
Jan. 1 • 10:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a missing paddler. A surf skier had reported a friend was missing. Officers started a search and located the paddler entering the harbor.
Jan. 2 • 1:41 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel at the harbor entrance. Officers towed the vessel and released it at its marina slip.
Jan. 3 • 11:57 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boy on a boogie board who had lost his board and was caught in a rip caused by 8-  to 10-foot seas. Officers picked up the boy outside the surf and transported him to Marina Park, where his mother picked him up.
Jan. 4 • 8:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a large log in the water at the harbor entrance. Patrol took the log in tow and disposed of it.
Jan. 4 • 4:23 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a kite surfer in distress at Surfer’s Point. Upon arrival, the kite surfer had entered the surf heading to the beach. Officers stood by until the surfer was safely on land.
Jan. 5 • 4:27 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel south of the harbor. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Jan. 6 • 10:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a one-person outrigger canoe paddler exiting the harbor in 10- to 15-foot swells. Soon after, the mother of the paddler contacted Harbor Patrol officers, who escorted the outrigger canoe back to the harbor.
Jan. 8 • 12:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers witnessed a collision between a crewboat and a moored vessel, which caused damage to a boat at Ventura Isle Marina. Officers took a statement from the skipper and advised the owner of the damaged sailboat.


SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor
Jan. 6 • 3:55 p.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report from a fuel dock operator that someone had illegally dumped five trash bags full of used oil filters in Coast Guard trash cans near the oil dump station on the city pier. Officers reviewed on-site camera video that recorded the incident.
