Byline: Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities rescued 11 people, including a pregnant woman, from a drifting boat off the San Diego coast.

Authorities say the boat apparently was carrying illegal immigrants from Mexico when its engine died before dawn March 12 off Point Loma.

Authorities say a Spanish-speaking woman on the boat used a cellphone to call 911.

The Coast Guard and border agents were notified about 2 a.m. The boat was located about three hours later, about 3 miles from shore.

Eight women and three men were taken to shore and placed in custody by border agents.
