1979: Boats appear to have adequate fuel supply
Closed gas stations and high prices did not deter boaters away from the Shelter Island launch ramp during a time when fuel docks were experiencing a gas shortage.
An April 1979 article reported while motorists were impacted by the lack of fuel at the pump, boat owners were faring well as many fuel docks were able to keep up the diesel supply.
Cortez Fuel Dock was only selling fuel to commercial vessels and Islandia Fuel Dock only had enough gas and diesel for the month.
