Big Bay Fishing Tournament Returns to San Diego
Byline: Ambrosia Brody
SAN DIEGO — Young anglers can cast a line and reel in a prize during the Port of San Diego’s second annual Big Bay Fishing Tournament June 23, where participants can fish for free and vie for cash prizes.
The annual catch-and-release event promotes recreational access to the waterfront by offering local youths an opportunity to try their hand at fishing at two local piers — Chula Vista Bayside Park and Pepper Park.
The tournament is free for boys and girls 16 years of age and younger who are accompanied by an adult. Bait will be provided. Limited fishing equipment will also be available, as will refreshments.
Participating anglers can secure a spot at Pepper Park (space is limited to 50 people) or at Bayside Park, where 150 people can be accommodated. Volunteers from the Port of San Diego and the San Diego Anglers organization will be on site to answer questions and help oversee the tournament.
Check in will take place at each location at 7 a.m., with the tournament scheduled to run from 7:30-11:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow at noon.
Cash prizes will be awarded to winners at each pier for the largest fish caught and the most fish reeled in. Additionally, a tournament souvenir will be presented to those participating in the daylong event.
Participants can pre register at tiny.cc/BBfishing.
