Boaters flock to Humphreys Concert Series

SAN DIEGO—Boaters seeking serene waters and striking tunes won’t have trouble finding either this summer as the Humphreys Concerts By the Bay series returns with top musical acts.

The San Diego outdoor music venue, uniquely situated alongside Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn and Marina, offers space for roughly 1,450 concert-goers, as well as channel space around the docks for slip-users, kayakers, canoes and other spectators to heed the notes from a wide-spectrum of musicians.

“Boaters can hear the show very well,” said Bobbi Brieske, vice president of Humphreys’ concert department. “They seem to flock out there during the summer months, especially when it’s warmer out and on weekends. There will just be a solid mass of boats from our dock to the next hotel down the bay. The entertainers get a kick out of them. They usually give a shout out to the boaters.”
The venue, which has hosted concerts since 1982, began April 4 and concludes October 16 with a performance from Tower of Power and Average White Band.

Other notable acts set to take the stage include: Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band (July 11), Steely Dan (July 13), Boston (July 30), Lynyrd Skynyrd (August 7), Iron & Wine (August 11), B.B. King (August 27), Chicago (September 12), Pixes (September 27) and The Beach Boys (October 5).

“This season’s lineup is very strong,” Brieske said. “We’re very excited about it. We have a lot of our perennial favorites back, as well as a lot of newcomers.”

Guest slips are available at the marina on a first-come, first-served basis. Boaters may call Half Moon Marina at (619) 224-3401 or visit humphreysconcerts.com and ticketmaster.com.
