Byline: The Log Staff

MARINA DEL REY — In preparation for the busy prime boating season, California Yacht Club has put together an informative panel of guest speakers for its March 29 yachting luncheon: “Boating Behind the Scenes: Insider Tips and Secrets.”

Guests will hear presentations from some of Southern California’s leading experts in boating-related professions, including yacht insurance, maritime law and marine surveying.

Four presentations are planned, including “Maritime Law for Boaters,” in which maritime attorney and adjunct professor of admiralty law David Weil will speak about California sales tax and use tax, contract language in vessel purchase agreements, and vessel title and documentation issues.

Marine surveyor Douglas Johnston will speak on the ins and outs of yacht surveys, covering boat builders’ recommendations, general boat maintenance, surveys for insurance purposes and refinancing tips.

Michael Bryant, president of Trident Funding Inc., will provide insight into marine financing, giving boaters information on available and affordable boat loan options, low interest rates and refinancing options.

Oversea Insurance Agency president Scott Jarvie will cover topics on marine insurance, focusing on what boaters can expect to get from their coverage, along with how boaters can protect themselves from uncovered claims.

The luncheon will be held at California YC at 4469 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey. It is open to the public and starts at noon, with a buffet lunch beginning at 12:15 p.m. and the presentation scheduled for 12:40 p.m. The price of the event is $16.25 per person, and reservations are recommended.
