Kialoa’s Jim Kilroy to Speak at California YC
Byline: Ambrosia Brody
MARINA DEL REY — Accomplished sailor Jim Kilroy will present stories of the many adventures he encountered and the life lessons learned while sailing and racing, during a book signing and presentation at California Yacht Club, March 20.
Kilroy will share memories of the time spent aboard his Maxi race boat, Kialoa, during the evening book club presentation and dinner.
Kilroy, famous for his fleet of race boats, will recount the adventures of the Kialoa teams as they raced around the world. The sailor who became famous in the mid- to late 1970s and 1980s for breaking records and snagging trophies in the racing world will also tell of the business lessons he learned during his time aboard, and he will read from his new book, “Kialoa US-1: Dare to Win.”
“The Kialoas and their amateur crew have had tremendous success, as set forth in our book. And we believe that our greatest victory has been the building of the mutual capabilities of our amateur crew and their focus — not just on sailing, but on the skill and capabilities for their after-racing life,” Kilroy said. “All of this skill is reviewed in the details of our book and the wonderful friendships.”
The 446-page hardcover book will be available for purchase at the presentation. Kilroy will sign books afterward.
“Kialoa US-1: Dare to Win” will be available for purchase at $50, with proceeds benefitting the John B. and Nelly Llanos Kilroy Foundation for Youth Sailing and Education, Meals on Wheels and other charitable entities.
Dinner is at 7 p.m., with the presentation and book signing to follow. Tickets for the California YC event are $25 and be purchased by calling (310) 823-4567 or visiting calyachtclub.com. Reservations are required by no later than March 15.
California YC is located at 4469 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.
