Coast Guard Intercepts Boats; Seizes Ton of Marijuana

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has intercepted two boats northwest of Santa Catalina Island, seizing 1 ton of marijuana and taking eight suspected smugglers into custody.
Petty Officer Adam Eggers told the Los Angeles Daily News that a Coast Guard crew on patrol Jan. 10 spotted the vessels on radar.
A short pursuit ended at 11:45 p.m. with the arrest of four men in a boat with the marijuana and four men aboard a companion vessel.
The men and marijuana were transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
