June 16 Yard Sail to Support Sailing Programs

LONG BEACH — Boaters can shop for a wide variety of used marine gear — and boats, too — when the nonprofit US Sailing Center of Long Beach hosts its annual Boats and Marine Gear Yard Sail from 6 a.m.-noon June 16. The center is located at 5489 E. Ocean Blvd.

Funds raised at the Yard Sail will support the center’s various community sailing programs, including sailing for the disabled and at-risk youth, local high schools, colleges and Olympic sailors.

Yard Sail items that will be available for purchase will include anchors, dinghies, apparel, catamarans, hardware, safety gear, sailboards, sails, inflatables, keel boats, outboard engines and electronics. The Sailing Center also accepts donations — so, boaters can clean out dock boxes, lockers and garages; and make a tax-deductible donation of used boats and marine gear.

In addition to the Yard Sail, the US Sailing Center Long Beach is hosting one-week youth summer sailing camps during July and August, providing an introduction to sailing for youth ages 8-15. Each day, students will learn the principles of sailing and marine safety while sailing on Alamitos Bay and Long Beach Harbor.
