New Shelter Island Marina Dockmaster: Kate Pearson

SAN DIEGO — San Diego resident and Australian native Kate Pearson has been announced as the new dockmaster of the Shelter Island Marina, replacing longtime dockmaster Deborah Pennell.

“I’m very pleased that Kate Pearson joins us as the new dockmaster of our fabulous marina,” said Island Palms Hotel general manager Bob Levine. “Kate has a wealth of experience in the yachting community and brings great energy and enthusiasm to the position.”

Pearson will be responsible for overseeing marina operations at Shelter Island Marina — a full-service, 190-slip marina that can accommodate a wide range of pleasurecraft, including mega-yachts up to 200 feet; and offers full-service hotel amenities.             Pearson most recently held the position of vice president of business development for Knight & Carver YachtCenter and is the current president of the San Diego Superyacht Association.

Pearson replaces Deborah Pennell, a 33-year industry veteran who is retiring after 17 years at Shelter Island Marina. Pennell will remain as a consultant for special projects in the future.

“Deborah will be greatly missed by staff, marina tenants and guests alike,” Levine said. “We all wish her the very best.”
