Long Beach Marine Bureau Manager Receives Award

The California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains (CAHMPC) has honored Long Beach Marine Bureau manager Mark Sandoval with its state Harbormaster of the Year award.

Sandoval accepted the award at the association’s 63rd annual conference and trade show in Sacramento Oct. 13.

“I was very pleased and surprised by the announcement,” Sandoval said.

Made up of port captains, marina managers and port security personnel working in California’s public harbors, the CAHMPC chose Sandoval for his success in bringing the rebuild of Alamitos Bay Marina to the construction phase, while effectively managing numerous challenges. His involvement with the California Department of Boating and Waterways (Cal Boating) was included among his noteworthy accomplishments for this award.

The CAHMPC works closely with Cal Boating to identify waterfront funding needs and evaluate waterfront policies and best management practices.

For more than 15 years, Sandoval has been managing Long Beach’s beaches and harbors, including overseeing the largest publicly operated marina system in the United States.
